Felicity Smoak Is One Brave Precious Badass Cupcake! #28
As we all know Felicity is a precious badass cupcake! I figure it can’t hurt to look at the many acts of bravery she has performed because let’s face it - our girl rocks!
4x12 - Gave a kickass presentation after rude man doubted her
Arrow 4x13 - Oliver looked for her approval right before he chopped of Malcolm’s hand
Arrow 4x13 - Confronted her father about leaving her AND turned him over to the police
Arrow 4x14 - Felicity allowed this to happen
Arrow 4x14 - Being a super supportive adorable wifey!

Oliver’s insistence on not killing Malcolm (or not letting him die) to protect Thea (as seen in 3x15 and 4x13) makes so much sense in light of what 5x23 talks about: his survivor’s guilt. Oliver spends ten years under the crushing weight of guilt because he feels that he was the reason for his father’s death. It’s made him suicidal; it’s made him feel that his life was not his own because everything he did had to be in service of honoring his father’s memory, that his life belonged to Robert; it’s made him feel responsible for the pain of Moira and Thea in missing Robert; it’s made him feel responsible for the pain of everyone else his life has influenced since then because he feels that he was supposed to die and that his life had no right to intersect with theirs at all; it’s made him feel like he murdered his father whom he loved; it’s made him feel guilty for even being alive. For all of Oliver’s adult life he’s been crushed by this guilt, and he sees the possibility of the exact same thing happening to Thea if she gets Malcolm killed or lets him die for her. It’s not something that he can express so it’s something that the others can’t really understand but it makes so much more sense than they realize. Oliver would give up anything for Thea to not have to suffer the way that he suffers, for her to be spared the self-hatred he feels.
Ultimately, it’s not something Oliver was able to protect Thea from- Merlyn still died for her. But hopefully, now Oliver has reached a point where he has moved past his guilt over his father’s death, and he might finally be in a position to pull Thea through, to help her escape that guilt that trapped him for so long. And they can heal together.
