why do i have to deal with tommy and laurel’s death at the same time?
Arrow 4x19 (I can read "Clayton on that grave behid Oliver)
About the leaked Arrow spoilers
Did I want it? Yes.
Am I happy about it? No.
But that doesn’t make any sense? Yes.
BUT DID ARROW FUCKING UP ONE OF MY FAVORITE COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS MAKE SENSE???? NO! Fix your mistakes, instead of killing them off to please a fan fiction that has cause half of your viewers to run away.
I’ve felt NO fucking fear of death for the main characters this season, because I knew the big death wouldn’t be coming until at least April and Felicity was very clearly getting paralyzed,
I want to feel week to week the fear that Diggle might die, not know he’s going to be fine for AT LEAST 15 fucking episodes! I want to watch shows thinking that anyone can die, that’s what makes these action/drama shows fun.
The Arrow grave plot has ruined that for me, and was a fun thing to think about for roughly 4 episodes.
I stopped watching Arrow after Season 4 Episode 14, because I had no reason to. I’ll find out who dies by watching twitter, and I’ll get to see Mr. Terrific by watching twitter!
You know who I really wanted to die? The flashback plotline.
brief rant about the Arrow Grave thing
I’ve seen the Arrow grave spoiler pictures and I will doubt their validity until I see the episode but I have seen people getting upset which I understand if it is a character you love, but I mean what did you expect when we were told someone was going to die. It was likely going to be someone from the Team and their would be massive complaints regardless of who it was. The only people dying that I think wouldn’t cause complaints or have people threatening to quit the show would be Mama Smoak or Captain Lance, there would be sadness don’t get me wrong, but not outrage, in my opinion. But yeah I mean if you break it down, killing Laurel, Felicity or Thea will cause the argument that they are just killing more strong women, and killing Diggle would cause the poc argument (which the 100 is seeing both of right now) so the writers would be kind of screwed no matter what if they made the decision, and they likely did, to kill a Team Arrow member cause they aren’t killing Oliver. I just think if you are only watching a show for one character and you threaten to leave if anything happens to that character then you probably shouldn’t be watching the show because unless they are the lead, and even if they are sometimes, there is a chance they will be killed off. Which is probably a little hypocritical of me to say since I’m sure I’ve said the same thing before myself but I cannot say for sure that I would ever go through with it.
If Laurel is in the Grave....
Now here’s the thing. I don’t actually want Laurel to die. From mid season one all the way till the end of last season (and again around the ridiculous resurrection episodes) sure. I hated her, I didn’t understand her and I was sure if I had to listen to any more of her whining or self righteous bitching, I would break something. At that point I just wanted her gone. Not dead necessarily just out of the picture nagging at someone where I couldn’t see or hear her.
Over the course of the last few episodes, she’s become tolerable. Sometimes she’s even fun. Last night, she was marvellous. But I genuinely just don’t care about her at all. She just sort of exists for me, a staple in the comics that’s being brought to life on screen that I and all other casual fans who’ve never touched a comic have been forced to accept as part of the Arrow world. And that’s fine.
Except that we know someone is going to die. It’s been bashed into our skulls since 401 and we know it’s someone big. Someone who’s been around since the first season and an integral part of the team. And when I look at who those contenders might be, it’s not a large list. And I love every single person on that list save for one character: Dinah Laurel Lance. She’s the only character whose death is not going to devastate me as a viewer.
Sure I’ll be sad because I’m certain it will be written in the most heartbreaking manner possible. And because no one who’s inherently good and who’s genuinely doing their best to help should have to die to do it. But mostly because it’s going to hurt the characters I do love. The ones I do have an emotional connection to.
I don’t want Laurel to die. But I don’t want anyone to die. And if someone has to, I’d rather it be her. It’s just that simple. If I could avoid it entirely I would. But we know for a fact that’s not going to be the case.
So if it does in fact turn out that Laurel is the one in the grave I’m not going to gloat, or rejoice, or dance a happy jig or any other such tasteless thing. I won’t lie and say I won’t be relieved that it’s not anyone else, but that’s about as far as I expect my positive emotions will go.
I’m sorry for Laurel fans out there. From what I’ve been led to believe the Black Canary is in the comics, I can understand your devotion to her. But I never saw that version of the character in the show. The only judgements I can make are based on what I have personally experienced and those experiences have vacillated mostly between extreme annoyance, exasperation and apathy.
But I know a lot of non-Laurel fans out there, are celebrating the thought of Laurel dying. And I suppose that’s what this whole ramble is about, to come out and say that I’m sure I can’t be the only one who won’t be rejoicing who isn’t a Laurel fan. For me it’s just a necessary evil, the least negative outcome from this inevitable storyline. Someone is going to die, and some of us fans are going to be devastated by it. And if it doesn’t turn out to be Laurel, I’m happy for you but you’ll have to excuse me when I curl up into a ball and bawl hysterically over whoever does die.
If Laurel’s the one in the grave, Sara HAS to return the favor and bring her back with some time travel shenanigans
It’s only fair
(Seriously though, I only watch this show for Laurel at this point and tbh I don’t think the Flash is that great either so I feel like I’ve been robbed and wasted all my time on the Flarrowverse)
