Time to make the doughnuts. I finally used the last of my small underglaze transfers on the work that went in the kiln yesterday. For me process is a large reason why I make and I try to make every thing I use on my work. I made this screen and the learning curve of what works was steep. First was making imagery that would burn well into the photo emulsion, second was getting the photo emulsion thickness on the screen correct, third was getting the right time of exposure and finally figuring out how thick I needed to make the underglaze to print. Lots of research and trial and error but I’m satisfied with the outcome. Once the black has dried I’ll apply the color to the backside. Then they will be ready to rock and roll. Hands, we take them for granted. As a maker they, along with my brain, are my primary tools. Lately I’ve been doing a large yard project and have been asking a lot of them, worked them to the bone. Well not to the bone but to the blister. It will take a little time for my hands to heal so I can get back to slinging clay in the wheel. • The Name • 31.01.17 •

My second group meeting today consisted of us agreeing on a name for the exhibition. There were two alternate possibilities ‘Art Interrupted’ and 'Interrupted’. The choice was originally 'Art Interrupted’ but after some deliberation we decided on 'interrupted’ but after meeting with our tutor John we went back to 'Art Interrupted’ agreeing it was the appropriate choice that suited our exhibition.

After discussing our ideas with John he gave us some topics to think about and because of what we hoped to achieve during our exhibition we discussed timings and decided that a one time showing would fit with our criteria. Only allowing the audience one attempt at witnessing our exhibition.

Also during our discussion with John we talking about distributing roles between ourselves so find wouldn’t be wasted. We listed some objectives to tackle in our next meeting.

• Artist • Beth Semple • • Statement • My work at the moment is gearing more towards surrealism, linking body parts with every day objects or furniture even if the link between them is quite broad. For example, the armchair covered in noses. The armchair is linked to old people and nursing homes, which often have a particular smell this, is the link between the chair and noses. The piece isn’t necessarily meant to represent this meaning; it’s more intended to evoke a response by the viewer due it being surreal.

• Artist • Rebecca Kent • • Statement • My practice focuses on the liberation of my body and the nude image. I am the subject within my practices and use this to comment on confidence as a plus size woman. These images only capture me from behind to add a sense of mystery and anonymity thus allowing other women to apply their own image, thoughts and feelings to these prints. Ultimately these images are ambiguous and reflect the journey of self-hatred to celebration, using the blooming confidence.

• Artist • Jess Parr • • Statement • My work encapsulates a state of mind. Through the simplistic nature of the materials and elements at play, I try to create a dialogue between control and acceptance. The exploration of this relationship stems from my struggle with OCD and anxiety; the need for perfection and the persistent contradictory desire to let go. 
This particular piece is reliant upon the airflow within the building, it’s form completely dependent upon something beyond my control. The simple framework placed on top traps the air and creates something that is both accidental and controlled, empty yet full.

Through the use of painting, printmaking and various textile and mixed media techniques I actively explore the relationship that exists between myself and immediate family through the examination and manipulation of my family achieve. Through this I question the conventions, traditions and societal opinions on the family dynamic through the subversion and exploitation of sentimentality and the ennobled portrait.
