Artistic Vice, Daniel Johnston (1991)

On Artistic Vice, Daniel Johnston made the move to proper indie rock, with a fuller band – a bit like Continued Story but in higher-res. The worst bits very much fit the pitfalls of ‘90s indie: too much ‘60s, too obviously on display. The best moments easily better anything from Continued Story, nearly as potent as Johnston’s most affecting pieces but also, not quite.
