(2/2) A few years ago, we created some new corner samples that were variations of the Feininger profile (the modification is shown in the third slide, the design drawing). The new designs -- as well as the way they were finished -- were influenced by frames featured in "John Marin’s Watercolors: A Medium for Modernism," published by @artinstitutechi. (1/2) Customization, illustrated: Our team of artisans can create finishes that work in dialogue with your art. Here, an ink and watercolor on paper by Gertrude Espenscheid we recently framed for a collector in Brooklyn. The client worked with designer Christine Heindl to select a frame design, matting, and glazing for the work. Together, the two chose a custom paint casein finish for the frame. Bark craftsman Victor Liz applied the finish by hand. (1/2) Hands-on: A client recently brought in an artwork -- "Hand" (2021) by the artist Pulp Brother -- to frame. The work was done in acrylic on a thin wood panel. After considering an array of options with designer Kate Truisi, a 1/8" brass frame with medium patina was selected for the frame. Since the artwork is on a panel, there was not enough material to drill in to attach it to the float frame -- so our Art Preservation technicians built a strainer, to which the art was wrap-hinged. (1/2) Cont'd from Monday: more on our linen-wrapped frame for Michele Oka Doner. After the linen has been smoothed onto the adhesive on all three sides of the frame's surface, Phil burnishes it using a Teflon burnisher.
