The profile is our WB-1, ripped in brass, and brushed on the face and sides. The artwork is floated in the frame, with 100% cotton rag board fillets. (2/2) The oversized brass mirror frames -- designed by Bark's Christine Heindl -- are each about 80" tall, and contain 5/8" brass screws inlaid every few inches (see technical drawing in second slide). "It took us about 12 hours just to drill the holes for all of the screws," said Mondello. (1/2) Continuing from Monday's post: the brass frames have been polished with the rotary polisher. Now, Chris Mondello cleans each frame with alcohol to prepare them for a lacquer finish. (2/2) Keara uses the rotary polisher on the face of the brass frame (this kind of polisher is often used on automobiles as well). The machine is heavy and powerful, and it takes a few hours of polishing to complete polishing the surface of each frame. (1/2) This week, we follow workers in our metal room as they create brass frames with a polished face and brushed sides. Here, Keara Martin preps a brass frame for this finish. The frame has already been braised (joined), and hand-sanded. The sides have been brushed by hand with #400 paper (as we saw Griffin doing in last week’s post) and are taped off, so as not to get scuffed by the polisher. A strainer is placed inside the frame to help hold it down. Fillets cut to match the off-white color of the matting line the thin frame, which is finished with a patina and light wax.
