Create an Action Plan for Your Arts Challenge
To achieve my challenge, I needed to prepare by firstly learning about 3D film-making. To do this I attended a 3D Masterclass run by Jacquie Pepall. At this session, I got a chance to practice with the 3D equipment. Through attending weekly sessions run by Boldface Productions, I evaluated the skills I needed to learn to make a 3D film. As well as attending the pre-production day, I prepared by researching around the subject area of 3D film-making online.
The deadlines throughout the course were set by our leaders These were appropriate depending on the stage of production we were on as a group. Our leaders ensured we were on track so it was possible for us to film on production day and our films were ready to screen by Saturday 23rd February.
These deadlines consisted of:
27th Jan - Plot idea ready for screenwriter Marc Price to look over and help our group improve it.
8th Feb - First draft of script completed to settle on a basic plot to work around. This was to be sent to Marc Price however we didn't have any dialogue in our film so decided to focus on completing a storyboard.
12th Feb - Final draft of script completed to pen the final plot and continue with the rest of production.
15th Feb - Secure filming location to ensure it's available on day of filming. This proved quite difficult for us as we struggled to find a suitable library or bookshop to ask permission however last minute we managed to obtain access to a secondary school library.
16th Feb - Final storyboard and list of props completed so everything is prepared for day of filming.
18th Feb - Filming. One day to use equipment and location before we edit. This was quite tight time-wise because of how long it takes to set up 3D shots so we had to change our plan and film shots that weren't necessarily in the storyboard.
19th Feb - Editing. One day to use equipment and location to ensure our film is ready is screen on the 23rd.
A lot of the support I needed throughout the course was provided by the leaders at Bold Face Productions. They were on hand to guide us and answer every query we had. We had workshops every week from industry experts who told us about their careers and gave us advice on our own careers plus our 3D films. We also supported each other in our groups as peers and team members, bringing our individual skills to the table.
I learnt a lot on each of the production days, particularly how challenging making a 3D film is despite pre-warning. I think that the only way to learn this is through experience.
In terms of extra resources we needed, we had to hire out a venue for our location. This was Caitlin's old school who allowed us to use the library for the day. We also needed three actors, which fortunately Caitlin also managed to provide though contacts.
I attending weekly sessions with the group where we discussed our progress with the rest of the group. I also made an effort to keep in contact with the rest of the group via email and Twitter.
We reviewed the plan as a group every session. This is also when we decided what jobs each person would undertake.
