From a cotton mill to a shoe factory to the largest privately-owned art center in the USA, Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment has got staying power and so much fun on tap. When we saw this series of century-old warehouses, with their gritty bricks and wonky windows, we couldn't believe what was inside...a labyrinth of 153 working art studios, 4 performance spaces, tattoo parlors, a vintage arcade, and many more creative spaces.
We love that @LoweMillArts wants to make art more accessible, with everything from their open studio policy to workshops for all. As tempted as we were by comic book making, we signed up for a watercolor class and were so glad we did! I always considered myself a terrible painter, but with Maestro Yuri Ozaki's tutelage I created a landscape I actually felt proud of!
By the time class was over, the Friday night concert series was in full swing. The five-piece band oozed southern soul and we danced through the last song. Just when we thought the fun was over, a friendly face peered out of a vegan food truck. “Chef Will the Palette” waved us over for an after-hours dinner party. Eating our cocunut curry lentils with new friends to the backdrop of the old factory, we realized the new Lowe Mill runs on good vibes.
