Happy ballgown Thursday, my friends. What a wild week, huh? I've been thinking about life's inherent imperfections a lot lately. If there's one thing that this year has taught us, it's that we all make mistakes. The ability to take responsibility for our mistakes, to correct our course, and to take steps to ensure that we don't keep making the same mistakes over and over is sometimes the hardest path to walk. It's easy to shift blame, and continue on our merry way, but ultimately, nothing changes, more damage occurs, and no one grows or heals on that "easy" path. 2020 has been a time unlike any other in our lives. Disillusionment, grief, and disappointment are now daily events for most of us. My father once told me "grown-ups know that there's no such thing as having control, we only have the ability to make choices" It's been a guiding principle in my life, and one that I'll continue to repeat to myself today. As powerless as we might feel right now, I want to remind everyone that we still have the power to make choices that will help shape the lives that we want to live. Whether that looks like asking for what we need, setting a boundary, unplugging from the news, healing a rift, casting a ballot, walking away from a fight, or making time for creativity and self care, tap into your power and take action. You owe it to yourself. Is anyone else emotionally exhausted? When I take a step back, and look at the big picture objectively, I realize that a lot of what hurts us is our fear and anticipation of things that haven't happened yet. We don't have a say over much in this life, but we do have the ability to choose where we focus our attention. Energy follows attention. Read that again. Today I am focused on being mindful of where I send my energy. I'm choosing gratitude. As a fiber artist, so much of my life is defined by the turning wheel of the year. Fall shearing season means new fleeces, and lots more processing, dyeing, and spinning for winter projects. With so many fiber festivals and holiday craft shows canceled, many of our fellow fiber artists and farmers are having to rethink their fall business strategies. So many of us rely on our fiber art income, and we can't let the current interruptions take away the source of so much joy. Two more art yarns headed to my shop on Monday 😍 . The blue one is a superwash merino plied with a metallic silver thread - 13 yds approx - 196g . The burgundy skein is a mix of superwash merino (the burgundy and coloured sections) spun with natural dark brown Corriedale wool. Spun around a mohair core and plied with a silver metallic thread. - 13 yds - 147g .
