Language peeps of tumblr! Big assist requested for figuring out what is painted on the side of this spinning wheel? The gothic script is making it extra difficult. This wheel is probably Norwegian in origin, but could also be Finnish or Swedish based on several key characteristics of its design that tie it to that region. The last two words might be fufër goty? Unknown. 🥲 Any help is much appreciated as I'm working on restoring this lovely.

Edit: someone in tags caught the fufër is a tytër for daughter in Finnish, so we might be a Finnish wheel after all!

Edit 2: was able to decipher enough that it is probably Fraktur Blackletter!

Edit 3: So far we have S-i--- J/I--- tytër(or tutër?) ---- 1884 figured out for blackletter font. There's a lot of repeating vowels and everyone trying seems to agree this is a pretty rough handwriting adding to the difficulty. Pretty sure the second word starts with a J but could be an I. Running theory at Juha as a name?!

Bit of a different post, but I have this tiny spinningwheel:

It was made by my great grand uncle, but has since lost its flyer and bobbins. The space in between the leather pieces is 7 centimetres. Does anyone know a place that makes such size flyers and bobbins?

I would love to make this spinningwheel complete again, as it is an amazing piece of skill made by a very talented ancester of mine (who also made one of my normal size spinningwheels). Here is the wheel compared to a piece of a4 paper:

I did my reenactment and demo table stuff this weekend and well.... had a patron that needed help.

Ellowen, one of my guild members, : Ev! Come here, she needs help figuring out what she might need to do to get her spinning wheel working. She can't get the wheel to uptake the yarn.

Me to patron: Well, it might be a brake line issue or a drive band issue. What brand of wheel is it?

Patron: 😅 I don't know.... I just recently bought it from Facebook Marketplace

Me: what's the style then? Do you have a picture?

Patron: no, I keep meaning to take one but keep forgetting to....oh, I can probably draw it! (Patron draws picture below)

Me: oh! That's a Louët. So your issue is that they are a Scotch tension wheel which needs to be fed the yarn as you go and .... (more spinning wheel shop talk)

Me: ..... I might be a little deranged being able to identify the wheel off of this drawing with a single glance.....

Have been spinning on my wheel again. It will be very fluffy and thick woohl for a cardigan.

Also I might buy a new wheel. I LOVE my hammer wheel, but spinning thin yarn on it is rather difficult. And the Ashford traveller has four bobbins so I could make four ply yarn and ply from the Ashford to the Moswolt.... (the Moswolt Hammer wheel bobbins are HUGE)

Also it has the opportunity for a Attached Distaff.

The Kromski Minstrel is also an option, but has a bobbin less. But it is so f*cking beautiful!?!?

Well, I still have time to decide, but I am leaning towards the Ashford, because of the bobbins, also there are more extras available
