favorite book, movie, quote, or song and why

OH THAT’S SO MUCH

book: North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I love it because it has a love story, interesting characters, but also really interesting perspectives on 19th century society, particularly the industrial revolution, and it has a lot of intertextuality with Paradise Lost which I also love.

movie: Pride and Prejudice (2005) hands down. It’s just SO GORGEOUS. I know it doesn’t follow the book, but that doesn’t bother me, because it’s a great story on its own. I love the costumes, the plot, the characters, the mUSIC OH MY GOD and the cinematography <3

song: that’s way too hard!!! currently I think it’s In Our Bones by Against The Current, because the lyrics are beautifully crafted and so uplifting and I just adore inspirational songs that give me more courage.

what would you tell your younger self? (because i'm lame and unoriginal)

you are neither lame nor unoriginal I have seen your writing bby (also ily)

these are the words I would speak to my younger self:

All of these things are okay. It’s okay to give yourself to people and to love deeply and recklessly, and yes, you’ll get hurt, but it’s beautiful that you can even do it. And at some point you’re going to grow older and stronger and find different parts of yourself and love yourself more than you do now. And that too will be okay. Being a bit cynical will be okay, being dramatic is totally okay. Be dramatic! Go for it! You’re young, you’re learning, you’re living. Be silly. Be honest. Totally, completely honest. I know that’s hard. I know you’re learning how to lie. But that’s going to take a long time to unlearn, so be kind to your future you and take it easy. There’s a future waiting for you and it might not be the future you have in mind for yourself right now, but it’s wonderful and fulfilling and electric. Hold on.

frick yes I do! I love just being outside and enjoying it in silence. landscape photography is one of my favourite things to do and everyone knows by now how much I love the sea I think haha

when I look at you, I see home; but I don't see your eyes crinkling with laughter, or feel your hands running through my hair, or hear your soft breathing lulling me to sleep. instead I see your composure slipping, and feel your shoulders shaking as I grasp them, and hear your words being forced out broken and weak. and goddamn, if I weren't so selfish, I would cling to the happy moments. but seeing you breaking reminds me that it's okay that I am, too.

I want to be free. I want to feel good about myself without having to look into a mirror and lie. I want to travel, to be unburdened, to walk outside and not feel as if I’m out of place. I want to visit sprawling cities and forgotten streams and sandy beaches. I want to discover welcoming little bookshops and busy cafés and age-old villages. I want to influence those around me– to be charming, gentle, witty. I want to have a positive effect instead of a negative one. I want to read and write and create without it being merely an obligation. I want to be positive, spiritual, kind– I want those moments to stop being few and far between, to stop being forced. I want to love without my only restraint being myself. I need to stop losing sleep over the fact I can’t do– or be– any of those things.
