asari melding headcanon: uhraa-tiaenri
One of the most intimate forms of mind melds is what the asari refer to as uhraa-tiaenri. This form of mind meld is a means of solving a conflict between an asari and another individual. However, this meld is done only with close friends, family members, or romantic partners due to its intimate nature.
When an asari and her loved one have a deep bond, but serious conflict arises, they may decide that verbal communication is not the right tool to reach consensus. Because they value their relationship, they decide to engage in a mind meld despite their disagreements.
Through this meld, they show each other their feelings and perspectives on a matter. The asari and her melding partner will see the world through each other’s eyes for the duration of the meld. Because of this, it will naturally come to peace and understanding between two parties.
While one person may accuse their loved one of neglecting them in verbal communication, through the mind meld, what the melding partner will see is that they feel neglected. The person who feels neglected might have the impression their partner won’t care, but quite literally feeling their concern is very convincing.
While this seems like a simple way to solve conflict, few asari are willing to use this method. It takes some compartmentalization. Asari who are very upset with their partners will generally be too stubborn to want to meld with them in the first place. But there are exceptions; Asari who are able to distance themselves from their anger.
In order for this mind meld to work, both parties need to be able to keep their emotions in check somewhat and focus on the personal significance of the relationship. Otherwise, a meld will not work, with one mind rejecting one another, or both minds rejecting each other.
There have been cases of asari forcefully projecting their pain and negative emotions onto their partner’s minds; however, this is not what uhraa-tiaenri is about. Uhraa-tiaenri is a peace-oriented mind meld to understand why someone thinks and feels a certain way, whereas forcefully projecting negative emotions onto someone goes against every principle of uhraa-tiaenri.
