'TNN Outdoors: Pro Hunter'
[PC] [USA] [MAGAZINE, TEASER] [1998]
"It's become almost tradition for reviewers of hunting games to list their backgrounds, so here goes. While I haven't hunted in a number of years, I have hunted a fair amount; most of my time afield was spent in Western and Eastern Oregon (two very different climates) hunting black tail, mulies, and elk, but I've also hunted white tails in Eastern North Dakota (you haven't seen easy hunting until you've walked a few North Dakota shelter belts) and a bit in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri. Unlike a lot of gamers, I think the idea of a hunting game holds merit, and have wished for one as good as some of Sierra's fishing games; in particular, I like the idea of cooperative hunting, where some players could take up stands while others walk the terrain to drive the game (any who've hunted the Oregon clearcuts will know what I mean). Problem is, I haven't seen a game yet that does hunting well; aside, perhaps, from Deer Hunter II, they've all been terrible as hunting simulations—recreations of the actual hunting experience—and few have been good even as games with a hunting theme. Unfortunately, Pro Hunter, while in some ways an improvement, largely follows the faulty path of its predecessors." ~Scott Udell, Computer Games Magazine (Web Version)
