Idea: Every time Frisk resets, they actually jump into a new timeline and the old one becomes Doomed, a la Homestuck.

most likely somethign happened like most of my friends had the one-type glitch and thats why everyone i knew thought it was new, or something

If you got the games within the first few days it was out or bought it used, it's entirely possible you got the version that doesn't correctly display the summary screen and thus would leave out the second type.
i never owned the gen one games, i started with gen twoi had friends who let me borrow their copies
