26 + naruto n sasuke

26. “I didn’t intend to kiss you.”

(this is cheesy but we all like to have fun here)

Naruto and Sasuke have been dating for about six months when it finally comes up. 

“Hey,” Naruto says, bright like he always is but soft like he only really gets when it comes to Sasuke. They’re laying on the grass on top a hill just outside the village, side-by-side, looking skyward. (It’s... cheesy, but then so much of what they do anymore is cheesy. Sasuke has a hard time complaining.) Naruto rolls over a bit to face him, loosely dangling his fingers through Sasuke’s hair. Sasuke hums, leaning his head lightly into the touch. “This is where we first kissed, isn’t it?” 

Sasuke remembers it well - they were laid in just this same spot, watching the fireworks from the summer festival Konoha’d been putting on. The festival itself was... fine, but after was better, relaxing with Naruto in their yukata, feeling a little more at peace with the world than he would normally let himself be. And somewhere throughout it, it happened, lips on lips, acting on what they both knew was coming.

But -

Wait a second. 

That wasn’t their first kiss.

“No, it’s not,” Sasuke says. Naruto looks perplexed then (and he has to fight the urge to lean over and kiss the confusion off his face because oh my god), so he continues, “It was in the Academy. Don’t tell me you forgot that.” 

Naruto keeps looking perplexed for longer than he really ought to, information processing at the speed of Sakura’s slugs. “I don’t think that really counts, Sasuke.”

“Of course it counts. It was a kiss.”

“Well, I mean,  I guess,” he says, scrunching his face up horribly. Much less kissable face right there. “But it was an accident, I didn’t mean to kiss you.” 

He.

What?

“You...”Sasuke starts and it’s like his entire life just changed because it did. What the fuck does he mean it was an accident? He practically smothered him! “How the hell was that accident.”

“I fell!” he insists.

“No one falls like that, that’s stupid.”

“Are you mad at me?” Naruto asks, tone airy like he’s on the edge of laughing. “Sorry I didn’t wanna kiss you when I was twelve, oh my god I still liked Sakura then!”

Sasuke had... well, he had no idea. It had seemed like this weird kid (the one he focused on like nothing else, but) had just decided to take his crush farther than any of the girls ever did. 

Sasuke had spent years thinking about that kiss, wondering how he could take back rejecting him. 

“Ohh my god,” he groans, mostly to himself, covering his face with his hand. 

“Oh my god you wanted to kiss me when you were twelve didn’t you,” Naruto teases, inching himself even closer to Sasuke.

“No, I wanted to kill you,”Sasuke says, muffled from under his hand. 

“You’re so cute, oh my god,” Naruto says, kissing at his hand until Sasuke finally moves it and he can kiss at his lips again.
