Gonna talk about Ashdapple because I love him
ah I remember the good old days when AshDapple was the only canon ship in FrostClan and the way Ashfur just *clenches fist* died giving his starving son food in the end
The Thing
When Raindapple woke that morning, she hadn’t expected to see Adderclaw poking his scarred head into the nursery, his eyes mourning. She quickly scrambled to check on her kits- they were all okay, curled snugly to her side. But Oakkit was so small and thin, she was worried for him. Coalkit and Bubblekit were a bit bigger, so she didn’t fear for them so much. It hurt to know her kits were starving. Her next instinct was to glance at Clayfang, but the she-cat and her own brood were still sleeping, if just stirring.
She turned questioning eyes to the medicine cat, and he motioned with his tail for her to step closer, mouthing, “It’s Ashfur”.
The next few moments were a confusing whirlwind as the tabby was led to the medicine den. Adderclaw was saying something, that there wasn’t enough food, that he’d been giving his share to the kits, but she could barely hear him. Her movements felt almost automatic; she was numb.
Raindapple went to her mate the moment she saw him, lying down beside him and feeling his feeble attempts at breathing through his thick pelt. She vaguely heard something about him collapsing earlier that morning when he’d been assigned to a hunting patrol, something about Thornheart and Sunblaze helping him into the den. She ignored the words, pressing her muzzle into the fur at the gray tom’s neck and twining their tails. He was so limp and fragile-looking, and she was only just now able to see every rib along his side, the sharp angles of his shoulders and haunches.
“Can we do anything?” she asked quietly, and she was met with silence. Grief pressed into her throat, and she curled tighter around her mate, resting her chin on one bony shoulder to feel the fading heartbeats through his fur.
Adderclaw left for a moment, to do what she was unsure, but she was happy for the solitude. It reminded her of the long talks she and Ashfur would have when they used to patrol alone together. She wished he was awake, but was a bit relieved he wasn’t. She wouldn’t be able to reply, and that would haunt her. She was so happy just to be able to be there. The lump in her throat wouldn’t go away, so she started to groom him slowly. She imagined she could taste stars in his pelt.
The medicine cat came back instants after Cherryheart burst into the den- he was tailed by Bramblingfoot, Flamestream, and Gorsewind. Their eyes were pinched and cool, still grieving the recent loss of Stoneclaw. Cherryheart was openly distressed, his jaw hanging open but no words coming out. What he finally did manage to get out were questions. Endless questions. Raindapple had no answers. She just continued her leisurely grooming, trying to ignore it when it was very clearly visible that Ashfur’s breaths were growing shorter and fewer between.
She looked up just as her own kits came into the nursery, ushered in by Clayfang. She threw the she-cat a look that she hoped belied her gratefulness. The glance was returned with a gleam of sorrow and pity in the older molly’s good eye.
Oakkit and Bubblekit were oddly subdued, and Coalkit just looked at her father with a sad sort of expression. Raindapple wanted to beckon them to her, but her voice caught in her throat. She needed to be strong. Just this once in her life she could be strong. She had to be. For them.
There was a pregnant silence in the den that seemed like it would never end. Raindapple could feel him slipping away, and her voice suddenly came up into her with a vengeance. She muttered soothingly against his fur, unsure if he could even hear. But she needed to tell him. He needed to know. He needed to know how important he was and how grateful she was and how much she’d miss him. Light was just starting to fill the clearing outside, and flooded the den slowly.
Adderclaw stepped out to let the gathered cats mourn when Raindapple propped herself up, leaning over the gray tom with a shuddering breath she hadn’t realized she’d held for so long. Cherryheart let out a wail, and Bramblingfoot turned her head, her jaw clenched tightly. Flamestream’s eyes glimmered, a tiny sound leaving her. Gorsewind just dipped his head mournfully.
Coalkit pressed close to Oakkit, and Bubblekit crept close to his parents, extending a wondering paw to press to his father’s fur. It was cold.
Raindapple let out a restrained sob, her claws digging into the soft moss.
The sunlight streamed in over the grieving cats like a comforting paw extended from the sky. It felt like it needed to be raining.
We Intertwined (Announcement)
((Well kinda an announcement. If you haven't guessed it by now shame on you I literally gave hints)) Raindapple sighed nervously, glancing at her mate and receiving an affectionate nuzzle in return. She glanced at Ashstar, who nodded and called the Clan to attention. Then she took a deep breath, bounding up to stand beside her friend. She looked down on the curious faces of her Clanmates, and her fur burned with embarrassment. Ashfur came to stand not far from her, and Ashstar pressed into her comfortingly, which helped. "F-FrostClan-" She cut herself off, forgetting her words, and she felt all eyes on her. The deputy didn't address the Clan unless it was in place of the leader or for personal reasons. "I-I just wanted t-to make it kn-known that I w-will be um... m-moving into the nursery soon, a-and so um... I w-will also be t-taking a break as d-deputy... s-so um..."

"Ok... I dare you... To sneak attack Ashfur and give him a kiss!"
"W-wait!" Raindapple panicked slightly. "Y-you can’t be… serious…" But, seeing as it looked like the grayface wasn’t joking, she sighed in resignation, her heart thumping anxiously against her ribcage as she set out to find the gray warrior.
It was hard to sneak up on him, but Raindapple had managed when they were on patrol; Ashfur had gone to catch a mouse he’d scented, and she followed, helpless against the dare.Just as the tom was about to pounce, she rushed at him, hearing an indignant squawk as she barreled into him. “I-it’s a dare, I’m s-s-sorry!” she stammered before shoving their muzzles together, lingering for only a second before her fur flushed and she stood, anxiously backing away. “Pl-please don’t be mad!”
