Cipher had only just been handed the position of dean, his ass barely touched the fancy chair behind his new desk when he was advised Homelander wanted to meet with him. He couldn’t decline of course, that would only give the wrong impression and spark suspicion. Not exactly good things for your first day on the job. Granted, the semester hadn’t officially started yet, Cipher taking the time to gather his bearings and get caught up on the previous year’s mess. But still, he didn’t want to be fired before he’d even begun to mould the students into strong, powerful Supes.
He paced around his office a bit, stopping now and then to look at his reflection in a small mirror near his desk, fixing his tie. He hadn’t met Homelander before, his nomination of dean all being done by other means. Folks speaking on his behalf, that sort of thing. Frankly he was surprised the man himself wanted to show up so suddenly.
He swallowed hard, steeling himself. He couldn’t appear weak, not in front of him. It was just jitters, that’s all. It didn’t mean anything. He was in control here. God U was his kingdom. He ruled here. This wasn’t Vought tower. Homelander was in his territory, not the other way round.
There was a knock at the door as Amy - his human assistant - entered. “Your guest has arrived, sir.” She said, slight hesitation in her tone.
Cipher stopped pacing and fixed his suit jacket, brushing off imaginary lint as he nodded. “Thank you, send Homelander in.” Despite the nerves, his tone was as calm and emotionless as ever.
