why was the ask button label shortened a few weeks ago? it still seems like a change that exists only to dampen user creativity

Thanks for your question. First things first—this was originally announced in a recent @changes post, which you can find here.
And so, to answer your question, we have found several instances on Tumblr where an Ask button larger than 26 characters presented subpar visuals. So, we have set a hard limit to ensure Ask buttons look great across all of Tumblr.

Ask bottom? Or do you mean button? It is still supposed to say it though, I did not change any of my settings. Look, it is still the original in my settings:

How to do the text on the ask button.
okay so i’m on mobile. i’m going to explain it and I have screenshots on how to do it too.
1. basically you’re going to want go on the Tumblr website on Google or Safari, and log into your account if you have to.
2. When your logged in you’re gonna want to click on the three lines in the left side corner, and when that page comes out scroll down ‘n’ click on edit appearance.
3. then once you click on that you’re going to go a new page and you might need to zoom in a little and/or scroll down but there is a section for the ask button and you’ll see ‘Let people ask questions’ with the blue switch thing on and
then like right there, you’ll see ask me questions or whatever it usually says, and you can edit it and everything, just make sure it works by hitting enter when done.
you can also see below the text that you can click to allow anonymous questions; anons. and allow asks with media; meaning pictures, only off anon, you can also click them in your settings on the app.
4. this is optional but if you want to know if it worked, i can check or you can ask a mutual / close friend to check for you.
