I was going to let it go, but I'm actually pretty pissed about this, lol.
Sending someone an ask prompt and then turning around and asking them to delete it because your ask is politely declined (because "you don't like looking at it") and then calling the writer dumb is WILD.
Guys, if you're going to be embarrassed about sending a writer a prompt or ask, either send it anonymously, DM, or don't send it at all. Writers are allowed to decline prompts for whatever reason. But to be rude to them because they declined your ask, and don't know/understand your idea/concept is gross.
// Hey, y'all. I've been getting some people resubmitting their asks for a second time and I just wanna say, I will get around to you! If I don't answer your ask, it's either because it doesn't jive with the roadmap at this juncture, or because I have a backlog to get through. Just be patient, okay? Thanks! //
I wanna talk something about this lady but just trigger warning tho..
Is that okay with you?
I'm interested in listening, though if you are going to give a trigger warning beforehand, being a bit more explicit on what type of trigger warning we are dealing with would be helpful. I'm open to discussion, but would just ask that the exact trigger warning be present when requesting the topic. Up?
Just seen two blogs, that I love, reply to two different anon requests that I had seen word for word in my asks. Both of the different asks. Not going to lie I’m a little hurt by the actions of these anons.
Look I don’t believe that you shouldn’t send the same request to another writer but at least change your request slightly or better yet tell the writers you sent it to that you have sent the same request to multiple writers.
It’s really disheartening and discouraging to see the same request, and even worse word for word requests, for a writer especially those who is a small blog like me that don’t get a ton of requests. Getting requests makes my day and it takes me a while to write them. My answered request fics have been an average of 2k words each which is equivalent to a 4 page essay and I really take my time to craft my words for our enjoyment.
To both the anons, I have deleted your requests due to this and to not ruin the other writers days. I would have written them for you if you had gone about it a different way.
Anyways… I have now updated the requests info in my owlery. Please do feel free to send requests my way~
i really wish ppl would stop answering anons that clearly arent sending asks in good faith. like that anon berating creators for having m*les as an RO (fuck that anon, obviously). everyone and their mothers fell for that shit! if we dont engage with the trolls, they will get bored and move on. just trash/block them please. in begging. i cant take it. (i know the authors don't answer that for attention, but its getting to a point where im even questioning this)
[posting as is - thought I would love to hear other people's take on this...]
I have many asks I want to send to the blogs i follow about their story but i refrain from sending most of them because I'm afraid it would be overwhelming for them to see so many asks flooding their inbox.
Hey Anon :)
Obviously don't flood someone's inbox with all your questions in a bunch of asks in one go. Buuuut:
unless indicated, (IF, Im assuming) authors looooove to receive asks. It's one of the few ways they can get interactions from their readership. You'd be surprised at how little asks some authors actually receive.
you can do like one anon did for TTTT: they sent like 15 questions in one ask... Well, maybe not exactly like that anon. 15 was... a lot. 2-3 questions at a time might be less overwhelming for the author.
don't dump all your questions in one go. Spread it out over multiple days. It's less overwhelming to see a question appear here and there than get a batch of 10-20 at one time.
your question might have already been answered. check the author's FAQ/Archive :)
If you don't have a question but want to share some love about their project, consider rating it, reviewing it, comment on it in places the author has provided links (for example for IF authors). There are many different ways to interact with a piece of media than just asks :)
Send an ask! Currently, fandom analytics will only be accepted via ask.
Update 26/8:
If you’re interested in your own data, submit this (in development) Google form to pick and choose what you want to see.
What do you want to see?
Your works, bookmarks, text from a specific work, comments from a specific work? All possible! You’ll have to pick one and tell me though.
What about your data interests you?
Want to see the adjectives/adverbs that people use to describe their reactions to your work? Want to see what nouns you use most often in your writing? Or what tags you use the most often in a certain fandom? Which authors works you bookmark the most? Pretty much anything with either the information in an AO3 work blurb (title, author, characters, warnings, ratings, additional tags) or the raw text of your work or the comments left on it can be examined.
How do you want to see it?
Currently I’m only doing word clouds, but more functionality will probably come soon.
What’s your style?
Pick a font, background color, and color table for the word cloud! Follow the links for acceptable names (most font styles accepted).
How do you want to receive the images?
I’ll answer all asks privately, and direct messages in the same way. If I see something cool and SFW, I might ask if I can post it to this blog for publicity. Feel free to say no if you don’t want me to!
Do you need to give credit?
Nope! Data is free, but feel free to tag this blog!
Can you do this yourself?
Absolutely! Code is on GitHub, and it should be relatively easy to use. It’s constantly evolving though, so watch out for new commits.
Anything else?
Look, I have no way of knowing if the works or accounts you want to look at are yours or not. But don’t use this to stalk/harass/bully other people. If I find out that’s what’s going on, you’re going to be blocked.
Also, I will NEVER ask you for your AO3 password. I’ll only scrape data that is already public on the Archive.
ATTN: Anyone sending me snide asks, you’re getting your IP blocked and ask deleted. I’m not indulging you nor am I publishing you to my page. Go harass someone else.
