When were you first diagnosed with Autism? What lead you into finally realizing you're Autistic?
I was diagnosed with Autism in the middle of my freshman year of high school which was almost four years ago now. I remember at first being very surprised and in shock when I got the diagnosis but after a little while, I realized that it wasn’t very shocking and there had been signs ever since I was little.
Some stand-out moments for me with being Autistic are (or maybe it’s just my quirkiness):
That time in Elementary school someone told me that they always blanked out when I was talking and I was just like “Ok do you want me to make sure you don’t do that?”
How inept I was at making friends in middle school and high school
That time that I realized I could tell that my Dad was in a bad mood by his facial expression and for about two or three hours I thought that maybe I had superpowers… (I was in 7th grade…)
When my Mom had a stroke (she’s fine) and I was very unfazed and unemotional (until I started freaking out about how unemotional I was and then started to think about what if my mom had died)
My inability to know when to stop with a joke or teasing someone so I take it too far
Having to ask my friend constantly if they were in a bad mood
Talking about my interests incessantly
These are just some things that kind of stand out to me that I could think of at the moment, but they may have nothing to do with my autism and may just be a “me” thing. Everyone’s Autism is different and unique and presents itself in different ways and I think that is something to keep in mind.
Anyways, thank you for your question and interest in my weird brain. I hope you enjoyed my rambling answer. :)
