Giulia Esposito is the name of the woman who runs the only art gallery that Juliana has ever worked with. A perplexing woman, Giulia is extraordinarily kind and not often actually in her gallery. She dresses constantly in contrasting textures, loving bold prints with lots of layered beaded necklaces, a pair of crochet pans here or a bohemian tunic there. The first time Juliana met the woman, her eyes went wide and she just exclaimed Why what a wonderful mosaic of freckles you have there, darling, before Juliana broke down crying because she couldn’t believe she was really standing in the middle of an art gallery trying to sell her art work.
The first time she ever sold a piece was when she was seventeen, a landscape that she painted that showed an image of a field of peach trees where she used to go and run around with Siena. Selling it had made her cry heavy tears, afraid she had given a piece of her sister away that she wasn’t prepared to do, but Giulia sat with Juliana while she cried and rubbed her shoulders, making Juliana feel understood in the way only another artist could. Since that day, Giulia has never once pressured Juliana to stray from her brand as an artist, never tried to pressure her into doing pieces for commission that don’t go with how she likes to paint or go against her personal style. Even though she’s not in the gallery every time Juliana goes in (she has a manager who rather prefers pantsuits and she intimidates Juliana greatly), Juliana still feels her presence every time she steps in the space.
