So it's Spooky Season, got any facts about the Litwick Line?

A bit late for Halloween but Prof Yew has some fun facts about the Litwick line!

These spooky little guys are far more at home in modern cities than out in the woods, so many of their urban legends are just that, legends.

Litwicks play an important role in a lot of urban ecosystems and are basically fiery-pigeons at this point. Sometimes they are pest, sometimes they are beloved pets. It depends on the people they interact with.

Professor Yew is happy to investigate any common Pokemon misconceptions! So ask away.

Say Professor, any theories about that pokedex entry claiming a student who saw Mimikyu's true form "died of fright"?

An attack like Astonish can cause a high level Pokemon to flinch, so using it on an elderly human with a weak heart isn't going to have the best outcome.

Mimikyu isn't a major threat to humans, but like any animal, it will lash out when frightened. Trying to remove their disguise is a surefire way to get bit, scratched or worse, hit with a dangerous move.

While it is in the same genus as Ghastly, Sinistea and Gimmighoul, Mimikyu DNA has the most similarities to an extinct species of ghost/fairy type.

Hi Prof. Yew! Let me ask, it is true that Banette come from dolls that where abandoned? I know is a silly question but my friend keep saying that is true and that Shuppet evolve into Banette by possessing an old doll but I'm pretty sure she's full of bull. So could you please clarify stuff so she can shut her trap?

Banettes can be far more aggressive than most urban ghost-types, and they are responsible for a LOT of the negative interactions. It only makes sense that a lot of the scarier urban legends are caused by these devious little pranksters. No need to get heated about someone buying into these myths, it happens all the time.

Because they are scavengers, they tend to collect a lot of abandoned objects, and will use them to torment the humans that threw these objects away.

Lock your trash-cans and be sure to take large containers to recycling plants before nightfall. If your area has a large population of Banettes and Shuppets, you can leave out old textiles as an offering to keep them from stealing your property.

Okay, but like, personality wise, I have never met a litwick that does anything but encourage those pokedex entries, any idea why they like being spooky pranksters?

Prof Yew has ready access to many buckets worth of various Pokemon.

Ghost Pokemon scare people not out of malice but just because it's a learned survival behavior. It also happens to be a lot of fun, so it's no wonder why they seem to enjoy it.

Litwick are very sweet and childish in temperament, so they tend to vibe well with human children.

Prof Yew has submitted 0 recorded instances of Litwicks guiding anyone into any afterlife of any denomination.

If there are any other rumors or urban legends you are curious about, Yew has many buckets worth of Pokemon knowledge to share!

Have you had any experience dealing with Golett or Golurk before? I’ve heard that some of them have been alive for thousands of years. I hear them described as gentle giants, but I’ve seen news stories say that they can be extremely destructive if their mysterious power source gets too unstable.

Do not worry about Professor Yew. Being crushed/bitten/burned/poisoned/stabbed or generally manhandled by Pokemon is important enrichment for Pokemon Professors.

Golurk and Gollet are very friendly Pokemon, despite their destructive capabilities. Like all large Pokemon, it is best to train them with care, and teach them proper restraint.

Do not put your Golurk in battle if you see significant cracks forming on their shell. Give them time to rest and heal, and they will be back to normal in a few days.

As for the influences of their shell's design, that is another matter entirely and is the topic of much discussion among the research community.

@prof-peach makes these adorable little comics on how to raise grass-type pokemon and I got inspired to make this.

Professor Yew studies ghost/dark type pokemon and helps dispel urban legends. Instead of lighthearted poke-advice he runs himself ragged trying to teach people how to interact with wild ghost pokemon.

His team includes a grumpy Umbreon named skip, and a nervous Drowzee named Landon. There was also a sleepy Metapod that Landon wouldn’t leave behind so he is on the team as well.

Together the four of them study the mysterious field of ghost and dark type pokemon and make lots of ghost-buster references.

Landon has been a wild pokemon for a very long time. He has never had a trainer before and has no idea what to do. He is trying very hard to impress Prof. Yew and be a good research assistant.

I might open the ask box for Prof. Yew and his team next weekend if anyone is interested in learning about ghost pokemon.

Hi Prof. Yew! A friend of mine gave me their Phantump as a gift but they seem really skittish around me. My friend recieved them from another trainer via trade and is unable to care for little Tanner (the Phantump) due to a lack of experience with ghost/grass types (they specialize in pure grass types)... What can I do to help Tanner feel more at home and comfortable to be around with me and my Pokémon?

Ask Prof. Yew #9: On Phantump and Trading Stress

Pokemon who experience multiple trades are prone to mistrust and heightened anxiety levels.

DO NOT send a recently traded Pokemon into battle even if you have the appropriate badges.

The first experiences a new Pokemon has with you should be positive. So focus on low stress activities before training or battling.

For Phantumps specifically, they need fresh berries and access to clean water to feel safe. Chew toys in the shape of berries are a must and you should always be the one feeding them for the first few months after trading. 

Phantumps need to associate their new trainer with food, comfort and safety before they are emotionally ready for battling. Just like Pumpkaboos, a sunlamp is a sound investment.
