The Inexhaustible Silence of Houses by Askance (@doomcountry)

You might remember that this was my third of fourth bind ever a hundred years ago (almost exactly a year lol), and as I've learned more skills over the years I've always wanted to have a do-over. So anywho I set this one on fire. Definitely give the fic a read, but mind the tags and warnings! More shots under the cut!

If you remember the first time I bound this then you'll remember the innards. Nothing changed about the ornaments, however I did increase the line spacing and decrease the font size.

And some quick shots of how I made the case. I traced the mirrored text onto the back of the cloth, and cut it out using a utility knife. After that I singed it was a lighter, and let some spots get a little too toasty. Using acrylic paint and a curve stencil, I dry brushed the smoke onto the cloth (which was actually a lot of fun!). Using more acrylic paint, I dry brushed black and metallic pewter paint onto some distressed pieces of gray paper.

the inexhaustible silence of houses by askance

Another fic read very early in my fandom career, I’m glad to have this on my shelves. It was a rocky start, middle, and end, and may even rebind one day, but for the moment I love it. I’m not sure if askance is online, please let me know if they are! Some simple, handdrawn title art, and special chapter heading that you’ll have to keep reading to see!

I experimented with the cover paper for a very specific smokey effect and did NOT get what I wanted. Still looks really fun and kind of ghostly though, but if I don’t tell you what’s wrong, hopefully you wouldn’t know ;)

If you’ve read this story then you know--the shit starts hitting the fan in chapter 3. I wanted to include this in the meta a little bit and drew some special chapter art for each of the following chapters, showing how things are devolving. Chapter 7--the fated chapter 7--sees the worst of the burning. Really pleased with how they came out!
