A group of insecticons would devour a few hundred acres of farmland and only produce a few energon cubes. I believe the process is just to cost effective to make it worthwhile. Pretty much a option of last resort to eat plants for fuel, but it could work.

About watering flowers with Hi grade, Are they cybertronian? If so they contain CNA and require some form of energon in there early stage. If earth plants??? Frankly do not know. Earth plants grew with a ton of energon in the past. I think energon would work as fertilizer though. In another universe some transformers took beast forms and got there energon through eating plants.
