Malachi: Ah, yes, and that was the “dim lighting”. See, you prove my point! In your modern life, you have today’s lightbulbs to fully light an entire room, and you do not seem to realize how little light a candle gives! Safely, I might add. Fire casts light, but it’s not very full, and the bigger your fire, the more dangerous it is to your surroundings. To be clear, lightbulbs existed by the time I was a boy, but they did not illuminate your surroundings as well as they do today... and my mother already scolded me when she caught me awake after hours, she would have been furious to catch me wasting electricity too. Alternatively, I could light a candle any time I pleased. But even with a good reflector, well, I could still only light my immediate desk area, and it still did a number on my eyesight! 

Nowadays, Pandora sneaks flashlights around and reads under her covers. What I wouldn’t have given!
