So if I have to live on campus for my freshman year I should probably be okay? Then I can move closer to the synagogue afterwards? Also, by the way, I hope you have a great time at seminary! :)

I mean, I can't say for sure, it's difficult to know how each sponsoring rabbi and/or beis din will operate.

I would definitely make absolutely sure, though, that it will be a feasible option for you to move close to a shul later on even if not that first year. I.e. consider what your transportation situation will be like if you do that - if I had been required to move into the community (which I was not because my circumstances were very unusual, but the average convert absolutely would be), I would have had to take an hour plus long bus ride to and from school every day, even though it's only a 15-20 minute drive (as I did not have a car at the time, though I do now). That bus only came around rush hour times, which would have meant I could not stay on campus after a certain time for activities or studying or whatever else. It would have been technically possible but it would have made life really difficult.

So even if you are planning to live on campus the first year I would definitely check into not just THAT there is an Orthodox community close-ish, but that it's a community you could feasibly live in later on while still in school, and that you could get to fairly easily even before moving there as well.

So you're planning on making Aliyah? :) That is really incredible!

Yes I am! :)

I definitely will be making Aliyah, but at this point its a matter of when. I've decided I want to do university in Israel, so hopefully I'll be making Aliyah within a year or two.

I can't believe this is actually happening! I always thought of making Aliyah, as something that would happen in the distant future. But slowly, it's becoming a reality - something that actually WILL happen...soon!
