this is a continuation of this thought i had, a while back; about how if robbie ever came back for any reason that robert would go into fawn mode. (additional post)
idk if i'll write more of this concept, and if i do it might be in posts like this versus a fully-fledged fic. though any actual writings and not just thought dumps, i will try to keep everything consistent. i might, if i get enough of them, put them on ao3. idk yet.
this would be the same scenario, but from elliot's pov. i haven't figured out why robbie will be coming back, but he is still dead for sure. and right now, he's being drawn to two specific anchors. elliot being one of them. this would be happening either right before or right after he encounters robert for the first time in this series of events.
my dispatch au's - feel free to chat with me about them!
elliot "shroud" connors stared up at the ceiling of the tiny cell he was confined too. solitary confinement was hell on anyone and everyone, but he was also used to it by now. they had upgraded him to maximum security, into the same prisons used to hold meta humans. not that where he was imprisoned before was a cake walk, but still it's stricter and more intense as one would expect.
a fair punishment, he thought. or as close to fair as one could get. regardless, there really wasn't any point in fighting it, at the very least.
"well, well... haven't you aged like s fine wine," a voice that shouldn't be there drawled sarcastically. he hadn't heard that voice in over 15 years. elliot's blue eyes slid over to the source, and found the man that had sealed his fate all those years ago...
robbie robertson. mecha man astral. his friend. his victim. his greatest regret. his downfall.
"hm." elliot just hummed curiously, staring at the man who was leaned against the opposite wall from the cot he was provided. they were still so close, due to how small the room was.
"what, not gonna even spare me a hello?"
elliot said nothing, and instead swung his legs over and sat up in his cot. then stood and took the two steps needed to get to the cell door. through the bars of the small window, he called out. "guards! I need someone down here."
"the fuck do you want, connors!?" distantly, someone called back.
"just send someone down here, smith. It's important."
there was distant, muffled cursing but elliot could tell someone was coming at the very least.
“solitary, huh? what did ya do to earn this?” robbie asked, still leaning against the wall.
elliot still didn’t reply, instead stayed by the door as heavy footsteps stomped their way towards his cell.
“what is it?” the guard snapped as he got to the door.
“ah, i need you to just confirm something for me– have i finally just lost it, or is there someone else in this room with me?” elliot asked, even-toned and polite; before he stepped to the side and allowed the guard to look into the room through the window.
the guard blinked, and looked in, his eyes widening.
“WHAT THE FUCK!?” he turned his head. “JOHNSON, GET DOWN HERE. OPEN CELL 3.”
elliot nodded in confirmation to himself, taking a slow, deep breath. “right… well, at least i’m not crazy.”
the prisoner stepped back from the door as it opened, following the shouted instructions with practiced ease. elliot watched robbie get wrenched out and forced to his knees as they demanded to know how he got into the cell and who he was.
“i’m robert robertson the second. and i don’t know, i just appeared here,” he supplied unhelpfully; seeming more annoyed than anything.
elliot and robbie locked eyes, studying each other.
