Cocoon Nebula - IC 5146 Located in Cygnus, the IC 5146 is a reflection and emission nebula. I finally decided to put everything together on the Celestron EdgeHD 8 for deep space and do some testing to make sure my guiding worked and that I could reach focus. Guiding was the easy part, focus was the pain. I finally got it and on the first night I captured m27 amd NGC 869, those I will post soon. On night two, I decided to shoot the Cocoon on both my Edge as well as my Meade 80mm Triplet. This here is from the Edge, and though I had some focus drift in the middle of my imaging (can't seem to get the auto focus to do its thing when using my Canon), I am happy with the result, especially considering I did not use any filters. . This is my last posting for the comet 2020 F3 NEOWISE

This has been a great target. You will still be able to see the comet through the rest of the month, but it will begin to fade quickly. It will not return for another 6800+ years, so this is truly a once in a lifetime visible experience. Dont miss it. If you look closely right above the tail in a different angle you can see the Ion trail. The ion trail is a strait line and points directly away from the sun. The tail of the comet is affected by the solar wind and actually is comprised of dust particles and thus has mass and behaves differently.

The Bubble Nebula - NGC 7635 I've been shooting this target for a while now in a widefield format -> 480mm, 380mm, and 275mm. Now I've shot it at around 1400mm. I finally got another filter drawer and I decided to test out how long I could shoot using just a guidescope and the longest comfortable time was around 180s. I plan on returning the Canon to the Raptor but I'm glad I was able to get the EdgeHD 8 figured out for the most part. . Messier 27 - The Dumbbell Nebula M27 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Vulpecula. This was my first real test using the Celestron EdgeHD 8 on DSO and it gave me the confidence to go after the last two targets I posted, the Cocoon Nebula and ultimately go longer on the Bubble Nebula. Don't get me wrong, I love wider field astrophotography, but there is something amazing about being able to get upclose and personal on some of the smaller targets (and these aren't even that small 😀). Part of me wishes I would have captured more data on this target, and now that I know I can get everything to work I'm sure I will in the future. . The Basics of Flat Frames (Astrophotography)

shoot at same ISO/Gain as your light frames

keep the camera connected to scope/lens

maintain the same focus as light frames

shoot a minimum of 15-20 flat frames

temperature is not important (It is with a cooled CCD)
