A Brief History of Asyria
Asyria -the Isle of Strife -is a large continent divided by a large mountain range called The Spine. This range is impassable save for one stretch of bloodied land called simply "The Red Pass". This area is a no man's land, and is draped in constant war between two powerful forces.
In the East are the Eastern Kingdoms. Primarily humans who simply want to live and let live. The Eastern Kingdoms are made of land ripe with magical and natural resources. For example, the Eastern Kingdom's capital, Augen, is a sprawling city set at the foot of a trio of massive peaks. Beneath these mountains are mines that run deep within the earth to yield mindboggling amounts of gems and minerals.
The Eastern Kingdoms aren't strictly human, however. A great number of non-human races call the Eastern Kingdoms home in favor of the general peace and sense of community found on this side of the Spine. Defending the Eastern Kingdoms is the great military city of Terus, sitting on the east end of the Red Pass.
In the west lies the Western Kingdoms, almost entirely non-human cities with only human slaves. Tengu, Elves, Dwarves, and even Gnomes work together to push through the Red Pass to take the bounties of the east by force, and eradicate the lesser human race. Great forests are claimed by Elvenkind, who command the primary military force of the west. A landmass just off the west coast is home to the Drow, both above and below the earth. The west relies in the might of Go'Ran, a great city on the west entrance to the Red Pass.
For centuries the east and west have been warring in the Red Pass. The west wants to dominate, the east wants to live in peace.
Religion on Asyria is very simple. Above all else are the Primals. These great creatures were born of the first pebble, the first ember, the first breeze. They are responsible for their respective elements and can only be reached by traveling to their planes of existence through special temples located throughout Asyria. Below them are the generic D&D gods and goddesses.
The Primal of Dark, Vorago, was defeated long ago by Sol -the Primal of Light -and was locked within his own plane for what has been a hundred years. Something new has invaded Asyria, however. On an isle off the coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, a door was opened and a force beyond this world came into existence. A new creature claiming to be the long defeated Primal of Dark has begun his invasion, raising a fast growing cult in the Eastern Kingdoms that has been rapidly infecting the population and turning them into horrible creatures, malformed and hungry for life.
This is the world our heroes travel in, and the door was opened just recently. There's still much to know about Asyria and her lands, but time is running out. Darkness is drawing closer, and bringing more powerful allies into its fold.
