I uh, don't have much of a backstory for this. Definitely takes place after ATA 3 (my version of events), and I guess the kids took an interest in music like Riley

Make a character design lineup sheet for my AU because hey why not it's good practice for making them for my own characters right? :D In this AU the group gets a lot more like... freedom of expression but the only one I've really picture making the most out of it is Amanda who is going to end up changing her outfits nearly every episode. I remember someone mentioned in a post that Amanda mentioned in one of the tapes her favorite color is orange so it kind of had me end up changing her color scheme her since you know... if she gets to chose what she's wearing and all that she might go for her fav colors.
Just Amanda's render alone took me hours I do not think I have the motivation to just... fully- NOPE NOPE NOPE I'M DOING IT I DID THIS TO MYSELF I WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!!! Anyway I worked way too long on this not to share it. I'm thinking Wooly might use the whole freedom of customization stuff a lot more when he's just relaxing at home but stay in his usual same-as-always Wooly appearance in most episodes. Piper is a very routine orientated girl and while she likes looking nice she really hates having to chose her outfits everyday so cartoon logic of never having to wash your clothes and having everything the same just kind of works for her. And Chickenscratch? I just don't know what to do with him yet? I don't think the customization thing is really going to be that drastic??? IDK everyone will fall into their own routines within all the changes eventually. IDK IDK

But WOW changing her skirt to red and her bow to a darker color did WONDERS for her design cohesiveness. She has her OWN little chew necklace hidden under her shirt if you haven't noticed. I'm trying to make sure their age shines through despite everything at least to an extent. Piper looking 16, Wooly with his little wrinkles (though at least in my designs they show a lot more when he's angry). Amanda and Chickenscratch obvious looking like little kids compared to them. IDK. Probably the last WIP I'll show before I finished it but I realized some moots miiight want Piper's base colors or something so here- Also seeing her all colored got me so excited (and this is why I almost never make my sketches into finished pieces. because I'm already happy)
Reminders that you aren't human anymore....
I just kind of love the implied psychological horror of them being trapped in anthropomorphic animal bodies. Human shaped but not quite. I think for all of them, Amanda included, their cartoon form is probably a constant lingering reminder of what has happened to them regardless of whether they wish to admit that or not. But I feel like there's a specific kind of horror to them being animals and how that messes with their perception of themselves you know? I feel like in my AU it affects them specifically in different ways??
For Piper, who struggles with how low she has stooped for Hameln, just to feel loved by someone again, just to hold onto some semblance of the past, of something familiar... her appearance in this world being a mouse that looks like Hameln's rat logo deep down reflects how at this point she thinks she is just as bad as them. As the producers, as the childcare takers, as those who experimented on her and the others all their lives, as the CEO, as the people who made the cartoon, as everyone involved and especially Marcus. Everyone fell for some idealistic fantasy of a COMFORTABLE escapist world and were willing to hurt people, or do immoral acts to get it. She was so used to all of Hameln's justifications but at some point she really started to wonder if anything Hameln did was ever truly justified. If it wasn't... what does that say about her?
For Wooly I think it affects him the most because out of the three he's been here the longest and oh BOY has this FUCKED with him. He's basically dead, this is all he ever will be and yet he HATES being a sheep. He's always trying so hard to continue dehumanizing himself the way Hameln did, separating himself from his actions and his humanity, trying to force himself into the role of Wooly into just being a cartoon character. But the more he does that the worse the "sheep issue" gets. And maybe he realized that before Piper told him but the what he'd have to do about it to fix it is way too hard and painful (aka actually facing what he's DONE and actually accepting who he truly is). In general (small hints) but especially in my AU I think deep deep down Wooly hates what he's become and who is he and what he's doing but he's too much of a coward to face it so he runs from it, bottles it, doubles down, anything to keep going and keep it locked away out of sight and out of mind. He would do ANYTHING to avoid admitting he hates this life and himself just as much as Amanda does.
Then for Chickenscratch this form and this entire world is a reminder of well, everything. Oh his normal everyday sibling fight with Joanne before he disappeared, the way he ran off to the TV room when their parents starting to yell at her again instead of standing up for her like she always did for him (something he only came to regret more and more the longer they were apart), the fact all of them are gone now, the life he had was gone and this is all that's left. I mean he definitely doesn't show it as much as the other two, he's just a little kid, but there are quiet moments where just looking at his surroundings or himself just reminds him. Reminds him how this show was always his escape and now he's escaped and he can't go back.

Please someone notice Wooly's little wrinkles (they show a lot more when he's mad) I just wanted some way for his age to show through his design idk... he was probably in his 20s when he entered the tapes but he would be in his 40s now... soooo :P
Piper's color scheme (fur and hair) are directly colorpicked from the Hameln logo because well reasons (a render without the vhs static)
Also I changed her eyelashes to be like the way @daze-bunny drew them in his fanart of her because I liked them a lot ^^ I've been drawing them like that for a bit now since then but I forgot to mention it so why not now.
She also has a chew necklace like Chickenscratch but hides it because internalized shame and all that yadayada.
Crap changing Piper's skirt from salmon pink to a reddish color really did WONDERS on the cohesiveness of her color scheme.
As @s4ucyy had made a post about I ended up giving him light up sneakers too!!
(this au is very fandom inspired tbh and most of the ideas present in it are just random stuff I thought would be cool in an AU all put together).
