So like I just finished playing through Amanda the Adventurer 3 for the first time and like I'm just thinking about... how much of this game is about grief.

Not just grieving others but grieving yourself. Not just grieving things you had but grieving things you can never have. Not just grieving the way your world used to be, but grieving the present state and how it could be if only it could've gone differently.

Rebecca lost her father and her childhood and over a decade of time. The whole game was set in motion by the mid-investigation death of Riley's aunt. The whole demonic cult at the core of the corporation is obsessed with going backwards. 'Wooly' literally cannot look at what he's lost in the face because to grieve what he relinquished is to admit he was wrong and admit there's no going back and there's no becoming 'Amanda's best friend'. And this highly puzzle/solution/mystery based game, narratively, has a very open ending. Because grief has no solutions that end in a confirmational sound effect.

Does anyone else think about the fact that Rebecca is probably temporarily or permanently physically disabled after being freed from the Hameln facility due to her body being severely atrophied because she was, ya know, locked in a stasis pod for 20 years because I do

Also I think this fandom doesn't explore the idea of how Rebecca copes and acclimates in the real world after her freedom nearly enough tbh

Random ATA headcanons/potential fic ideas:

After escaping the facility, Riley wants to immediately go to a hospital to get Rebecca treated, considering she is/was literally rotting. However, Rebecca is scared of Hamlin finding her again, considering they're likely still out there, considering they burnt Kate's house down.

Riley compromises, saying they can stay hidden for a few days, maybe get away from Kensdale, but then Rebecca needs to go get professional medical attention rather than just basic first aid from Riley.

One way or another, once at a hospital, and once Rebecca has been name dropped, her reappearance gets all over the news, because "Girl who has been missing for two decades and is in critical condition due to rotting/near organ failure" is bound to gain some attention.

Riley answers some questions about how this happened, though slips up and mentions Amanda the Adventurer, making public eyes suspicious of Hamlin, as, "wait a minute didn't she go missing soon after her father did and weren't they both deeply intertwined with Hamlin?"

Rebecca needs surgery due to fucking organ failure, rotting, and muscle atrophy.

Upon waking up from surgery, she has a panic attack or something because of being reminded of shit Hamlin did to her, which only Riley can calm her down from.

While Rebecca is in the hospital, Hamlin gets exposed by the fuckers that explore abandoned buildings, which Hamlin is long abandoned.

Someone tries to play an Amanda the Adventurer tape, but the person/people watching just get a really fucking creepy episode with Wolly by himself, all the eyes in the background dead, and Wooly eventually crashes out when Amanda is mentioned. It's recorded and spread around on the internet, bringing more to light what Hamlin did.

Once out of the hospital, with time and recovery, Riley and Rebecca are roommates, Rebecca is in therapy for everything that happened and also to help her emotionally/mentally mature, as she has been force to be a 7 year old for 2 decades.

Rebecca has really bad ptsd and survivors guilt, considering all of the other children in the tapes were killed, including Chicken Scratch/Jordan. Not to mention her dad, Kate, and Joanne. Wooly though? As much as he was done wrong in ATA3, (could've been written a bit better but I won't complain too much), yes he is still a part of Hamlin. So Rebecca avoids him.

Rebecca walks with a cane, which would likely be permanent or for a really long time, as her body is weak and hurts from 2 decades of disuse. She will also never feel completely whole, as many tapes have already been destroyed and there are many more tapes in the world, which will fuck with her mentally. The rotting and injuries related to Hamlin scar as well.

All of this leads to Rebecca having issues with her identity and body. She does not recognize herself, her body does not feel like her own, she can still feel herself rotting (psychologically, her body is no longer rotting but it feels like it is).

To cope/on bad days/when having communication issues (projecting a little with that last one but come on), sometimes she'll slip back into the headspace of asking really obvious questions like she did in the show. She will also make references to the show when trying to explain stuff (ex: having body issues and telling Riley that everything rots to tell them something is wrong).

More can probably be said/senarioed/headcanoned but I'm tired

except, these are all kids movies (wizard of oz, potentially finding nemo? (that came out in 2003 but it could be before Rebecca was put in the tapes permanently, they might have seen it together) and charlie's chocolate factory)

not that an adult can't have these as their favorite movies, just that they're all kids movies from the early 2000s or earlier, and seem to be based on knowledge from the past
