Spiny Bush Viper Atheris hispida
Atheris hispida is a venomous viper species endemic to Central Africa. It is known for its extremely keeled dorsal scales that give it a bristly appearance. No subspecies are currently recognized.
How To Find Your Daemon
Step 1: Elements
There are eight elements: fire, ember, water, rain, air, dust, earth and lava. Take this quiz to find out which one you are. (NB This quiz isn’t perfect if you have any ideas on how to improve it PM me.)
The eight different elements are ranked on two different axis one for activeness and one for assertiveness.
Active: Will take matters into their own hands, actively seeking out conflict and opportunities.
Passive: Will allow opportunities to come to them and does not endeavour to become involved in conflicts.
Assertive: Is vocal about their opinions and beliefs, willing to argue with people to defend themselves.
Deflective: Keeps their opinions quiet and prefers to stay out of arguments.
The easiest way I could demonstrate this is with the cast of Avatar as they are already categorised into elements.
The element you are represents the type of animal of your daemon's form:
Fire: Lizards, Insects, Spiders.
Ember: Snakes, Insects, Amphibians.
Water: Arctic natives, animals that live in or near water.
Rain: Water birds (e.g. herons), water based insects.
Air: Birds of flight.
Dust: Flightless and burrowing birds.
Earth: Most mammals.
Lava: Animals: Desert mammals and big cats.
Step 2: Characteristics
The next step is to write down the characteristics of the person or character you are trying to find a daemon for. Generally, three characteristics are sufficient for fictional characters, however, the more characteristics you write the more likely you are to get a good match.
At this point you should have a list that looks something that looks like this:
Azula: Fire - Passionate, Cruel, Cunning.
Iroh: Ember - Strategic, Easy-Going, Wise...
Step 3: Symbolism
The next step is to compare the characteristics of the character to the symbolism of animals. You should already know the type of animal you are so you can use this to narrow down the field. Below I have listed some of my favourites for this.
foxloft.com
spirit-animals.com
whats-your-sign.com
daemonmuck.wiki
daemonpage.com
Step 4: Species
The last step in the process is to narrow down your daemon form to a single species. Unfortunately, there isn’t a quick way to do this and it can take quite a bit of Wikipeadia browsing. You can, however, narrow down the species by asking some basic questions about the form your daemon will take.
For Example:
Social or solitary?
Vegetarian, Carnivore or Omnivore?
Practicality? (You are not going to have a ridiculously large or small daemon and probably not an aquatic one either)
Venomous, poisonous or neither?
Hours of activity? Nocturnal or diurnal?
Habitat?
If you answer all these questions and still have multiple daemons left it becomes a matter of instinct. If you feel strongly attracted to an animal while searching through the list of animals the chances are that that is your daemon form.
At the end of this you should have your daemon form put your element and form in the tags!

[Freyr] Hopefully this starts at 7:14 but if not just skip ahead to that timestamp to see Atheris Hispida or the Hairy Bush Viper (or rough-scaled viper) in action. TW: for real snakes obviously but I do feel it’s important to emphasize that even if you find snakes to be scary it’s important to learn about them because they’re an integral part of our environment.
Today’s Snake Is:
The Spiny Bush Viper (Atheris hispida) is a venomous snake species found in central Africa. This nocturnal species feeds primarily on small mammals such as rodents, as well small amphibians and other reptiles. Its large eyes help in spotting prey, as it lacks the heat-sensing loreal pits of some other snakes. Like other vipers, these snakes give birth to live young, which have a brightly-colored tail tip to help in hunting.
