variable bush viper
The Bush Viper, belonging to the genus Atheris, is a group of venomous snakes found in tropical sub-Saharan Africa. These snakes are known for their striking appearance, often featuring vibrant colors and keeled scales that give them a textured, bristly look. They are relatively small, with adults typically measuring between 55 cm (21 in) and 78 cm (30 in) in length, depending on the species. Bush Vipers are arboreal, meaning they primarily live in trees, and their prehensile tails help them navigate their forested habitats. They are often found in rainforests and other remote areas, far from human activity.
These snakes are opportunistic feeders, preying on a variety of small animals, including amphibians, lizards, birds, and rodents. They are ambush predators, often hanging from branches to catch their prey. Like all vipers, Bush Vipers are venomous, and their venom is used to immobilize and digest their prey. While their venom can be dangerous to humans, they are not typically aggressive unless provoked.
Bush Vipers face threats from habitat destruction, as many species are confined to isolated rainforest regions. Some species are also affected by snake fungal disease, which can lead to illness and mortality. Despite these challenges, Bush Vipers continue to captivate researchers and enthusiasts with their unique adaptations and behaviors.
Posting my first Artfight attack!
The character is named Gefahr, he is a Bush viper, and belongs to 1_T33TH_1 on Artfight.
Gefahr is such a cool character, and I don't see many snake oc's, let alone Bush viper oc's, so when I spotted Gefahr on Artfight, I just had to draw him.
Bush vipers are all members of the genus Atheris. Bush vipers are all located in Sub-Saharan Africa, with most species being arboreal ambush predators with keeled scales that give many a spiny appearance.
A prehensile tail is common within the genus, and unlike what most typically expect for reptiles, Bush vipers give birth to live young.

African Green Bush Viper Study
(Open for better quality, it's kinda compressed) Had a bit of a rollercoaster of a day, feeling pretty frustrated with everything so I decided to do an art study for a few hours. I think it turned out alright
I’ve had a few people with snake pfps in my notifications so I guess I was sort of inspired. I don’t know much about snakes but I think they’re cool :)
Here’s a Timelapse
