On mlm representation, I feel like y'all might be missing a detail. Wlw is far more likely to get past censorship. Has to do with a long standing problem of queer amab people being demonized. Gay men are paraded as paedophiles and hypersexual. They are painted as being dangerous.
Queer afab people face their own problems but it's a different flavor. They are dismissed as confused or dramatic. People insist it's because of trauma or attention seeking. But they typically aren't painted as full on dangerous the way queer amab people are.
It's why, in the rise of queer representation, we are seeing far more lesbians and trans men than gay men and trans women. It is an easier thing for the public to consume and inspires less backlash from homophobic groups.
Is it an issue to be addressed? Yes. But you have to remember that we are still in the middle of this struggle for queer rights, and it's not something people can change overnight. It takes time and is a gradual thing. It starts with background character making one off statements. Then characters being proclaimed queer even if there isn't full evidence (like actually having a partner), now we are at the wlw relationships that's usually thrown in at the end of something so shows can get away with it and not get canceled phase. Hopefully we will get into afab queer representation that can be a focus throughout a show soon which, once it's represented enough and people stop foaming at the mouth over it, opens the door for queer amab representation to start with a better foothold.
The atla team does deserve some credit. They are fighting this battle, but it is a slow one.
