people on here who have been on 10-15+ years like myself...i don't know how they claim that there were never any Black bloggers on here, or that it was always such a white website. trudy gradientlair was on here. thisiswhiteprivilege was on here. there was a feminist citation project sara ahmed was involved in on here. there was someone on here whose username was wretchedoftheearth and that was how i learned who fanon was when i was 12, by googling those words. tumblr was the only place i knew i could go to get accurate & compassionate info about what happened to trayvon martin, when everyone around me irl was rabidly racist. the amount of reportage and scholarship that happened on here before the first big wave of bans was so huge and so much has been lost. where were you when it was happening??? why weren't you paying attention??
it's cause they never engaged with non white bloggers so they never noticed them disappearing. they got the tumblr they wanted, and those of us who aren't liberal/conservative fandom bloggers were robbed of our black and brown friends, and worst of all black and brown bloggers were robbed of a dpace that once was a legitimate vector for talking about black issues. at least some members of staff know what they are doing, it's like the war on drugs in this website the way they crush black people on this website.
I literally published an essay several years ago about how a lot of people stole the intellectual work that Black feminist bloggers on here published regularly to build this website and its reputation as we know it. White people love them some revisionist history.
The reason Tumblr became the bastion of intellectual discourse that it was known for--the reason the term "social justice warrior" even EXISTS as a derogatory descriptor--is because of the work of the Black bloggers who migrated to this site from 2009-2014 from LJ and Jezebel's forums. BlueSky doesn’t use the SaaS model like Twitter does and literally the whole world (and thus the internet) is antiblack so a lot of folks use Substack to publish articles and essays.
So then it seems like the solution is to compile link lists here (like people do for a variety of things) for many users, and also mirror the blogging every time so it’s not lost in any purges?

There's an awful trend in reading that's this CinemaSins kind of rejection of abstract concepts and suspension of disbelief, that makes people say it's bad writing when authors use descriptions that aren't immediately one to one with physical reality.
Like it's bad when a "tattoo is undulating" (as opposed to... "drawn in a wave like pattern on the skin"?), or when hair is "wet wheat from a late Summer field" (as opposed to "sort of brownish light yellow that dries lighter, but is not actual wheat stalks growing on someone's head but kind of reminiscent of the color and texture"?), or when when ice cream tastes like midnight at the fair" (as opposed to "ice cream flavour bringing back memories of undefined ice cream flavours that are individually popular but always tied to a memory of late evening at the fair ground and probably smelling vaguely like popcorn and sugar"?).
Please. We have to get back to understanding abstract descriptions that evoke feelings and memories and mental images or things we haven't experienced yet. This hyper utilitarian way of reading and judging text is killing fiction. it's robbing you of experiencing things you haven't actually personally experienced.

Honestly, it seems like you missed the point of the post. The point was that the woman in the situation was maximally cushioning the guy ever having to confront anything. For all we know, it would’ve worked out fine. Maybe there would’ve been an argument. Maybe he would’ve sulked. Then everything would settle. But this woman had so much internalized misogyny that she couldn’t even bear the possibility that he wouldn’t, couldn’t even stand up for her own child against a (probably recently acquired) boyfriend.

To OP: idk this makes sense to me. Dogs are innocent: they are functionally toddler-like beings. Women are capable of much harm, (some of which is intentional, unlike a dog who can’t be held morally accountable bc, you know, they’re dogs) most of it emotional but when it does hit the alloromantics it’s devastating.
So to hate dogs is to hate small children (which yeh some people do as well, but just to put it in perspective). To hate women is to hate people who do wield their deeply personal influence over people sometimes.
The fundamentally different view that other people have of non-human persons and the view you probably have of them seems to be at least some of the bone of contention here.
