Zukka sitting in a comfortable, though rare, silence in their living room, Zuko watching the fireplace with a gentle smile and and his hands clamped in his lap, Sokka sitting on his knees infront of the coffee table, tip of his tongue poked out of his mouth in deep focus as he watched the paint carefully bleed into the parchment in such an enchanting way.
their silence is softly broken a their usually loud and rowdy kids quietly shuffle into the room, an odd blanket of worry + sadness over the 4, the young twins holding onto the legs of the eldest daughter and the oldest son with teary eyes and a worried, though protective, expression plastered on Kya’s, their 15 year old daughter, face with a similar look on Iroh’s, their 17 year old son, face.
Zuko is immediately filled with worry and quickly stands from the couch to cross the room, Sokka looking up from his painting with a soft look in his eyes.
“Oh, what’s wrong, my babies..” Zuko murmurs as he lowers himself to his knees and carefully holds the hands of his two eldest while the twins fling themselves into his lap, hugging onto their papa with tight little hands.
Sokka is quick to stand by Zuko’s side, his chest filled with an adoring warmth, “Papa, Papi.. do you like the big kids more than us..?” Wang, one of their 6 year old set of twins, cries out with tears falling over her round cheeks. Zuko and Sokka felt their hearts shatter.
“What? no, of course not! why would you think that!?” Sokka frowns and quickly drops to his knees next to his husband of nearly 20 years, Zuko, and opens his arms wide for Wang and Lee, to which they do launch from their Otōsan’s lap to their papá’s lap for one o his famous bear hugs, Kya and Iroh shifting awkwardly in their spots before being dragged into Sokka’s arms as well, Kya letting her eyes tear up and she whispers over his shoulder, “Well, sometimes you and papa look at us so differently from Wang and Lee.. and- and papa always stares at Iroh over tea and you always have a weird look when you and auntie Kat talk about my name..”
Zuko lets out a soft sigh, a soft glow of orange lighting through the skin of his through, a few embers coming with his breath, “My lovelies.. i think it’s time we tell you why we named you the way we did..”
and since I’m tired of color-coding and writing this in fear its too long, in short, they all sat down over some hot tea, and that is how Kya, Iroh, wang and lee found out about uncle iroh and grandma Kya. [along with wang, lee and yue, their non-binary 9 year old who is fast asleep in their room, already aware of the meaning of their names..]
i might write more about my idea of Zukka fan-chilren tbh, i just thought of them and i already adore these five.
