This is such a small thing, but I’m kind of losing my mind over it because it just shows how knowing history will make Vinland saga even better.

After the battle at London bridge Askeladd and his men help take care of the wounded, with Torgrim walking around and offering to do mercy killings, but then Atli calls out, asking for some onion soup, and of course I think “oh nice, he’s helping a hungry man” but no…

They fed onion soup to injured to see how bad their stomach wounds actually were. If they could smell the onions coming out of their stomach then they knew it was pretty much a lost cause.

Just gives a lot more depth to some scenes to learn stuff like this.
