Does The Term Local Rapper Apply Anymore?
I wanted to approach an interesting subject today and as the title says it’s about whether or not the term “local rapper” applies in today’s society. The term “local rapper”, or we can change that to local musician whatever feels comfortable to you, was and is usually applied to individuals who perform locally and that’s it, however with the internet at our disposal it is possible for people all over the world to hear your music, for instance i live in the United States however i have fans in China, Greece, Egypt, Norway, and other Places. This wouldn’t be possible without the internet, i generally use my computer to make material and i don’t tour (or haven’t yet, we’ll see) however all of these people on other continents are hearing and seeing my material. As a side note it’s kind of amazing to recieve a message saying how your music has helped someone or that if they are upset they listen to you. I hope i can help more people and please keep the stories coming. I use the internet to reach worldwide audiences, so… am i a “local rapper”? If the internet is used properly you can reach amazing amounts of individuals from all over the world, more than you would think probable, … without leaving your house (or studio or whatever) if you have the right knowledge, creativity, and equipment, you also have to work all the time, it takes time to build a solid foundation, and you have to be passionate about what you do, but that goes with anything that you want to suceed at. I personally believe the term “local rapper” is one that should be put to rest unless that rapper (or musician) literally has no online presence and literally performs only in the local area. Which never happens anymore so… should the term “local rapper” be put to rest?
