Post-final battle Rodan thinks that Ghidorah is either dead or gone for good and he leaves the city to avoid having to encounter his old friends, who just killed the men he loved and who he thinks hate him for siding against them.

(”how could you, Rodan? you were our friend!” “yeah, Goji, I was your friend, but when were you ever mine?”)

And Ichi and Ni are gone, but San is still alive, but he thinks that Rodan doesn’t want anything to do with him; and he’s hardly in a good place to look for him given that his two brothers, who he relied on and loved more than anything else in the world, who were his whole world, had just been killed in front of him, and now he had to take charge of their company in a capacity that he never wanted to. And he’s so busy and broken and consumed by his work because he hopes that if he does back to Denmark and buries himself in paperwork like Ichi always wanted him to do than he wouldn’t have a place in his heart for everything he lost

But then, somehow, he meets Rodan again, more than a decade later, and he finally lets himself feel again, and he’s angry at Rodan for running away but mostly he’s just startlingly sad about the time that he lost with him.

But then he finds out that they have children. They have sons. multiples just like him and his brothers. some piece of Ichi and Ni live on. a perfect mix of them and Rodan, who he thought he lost and who he loves with a fierce possessiveness that’s been softened by time and grief. 

They have a lot to work out together. They’re not the type of people to have a happy, neat suburban nuclear family. But now they have each other. Rodan went from being the sole provider for himself and his kids to being supported and appreciated. San went from the sole survivor of a destroyed family to having a whole new family all at once. They’re not alone anymore
