I’m in love with how immersive the Jonah sleep aid video is, and I can’t even begin to fathom how much effort went into putting it all together! But I was curious about how exactly you made it, and in what order. Because the way the characters both talk about things in-universe while also reacting to in-game happenings is very well done.
Did you write the conversations between Jonah and Elias first, then played the game, or vice versa, having layered a conversation atop the clips, or just some other third option I can’t think of right now?
Again, your videos are incredible technical-wise. Voice actor, script writer, and video/audio editor? That’s really the whole package!
Thank you! Sleep aids can be very complicated for me to make depending on how many layers I add to it (I tend to go further than I need to lol). Jonah's was by far the most complex.
Iirc, I did it in this order:
Wrote the general script - Before and after conversations, and some important dialogue in between games
Recorded playing the games - Video and audio so I could remember what I was doing at the time
Recorded mouse and keyboard SFX with snacks - Playing Apex Legends is instinctive, so I watch the playback and type/click in a google doc so I don't ruin anything haha. I did the same for Minecraft too
Outlined basic conversations - I recorded Jonah's parts first using the footage as a guide of where to pause and continue. Then I recorded Elias' exchanges and reactions to the gameplay from his perspective. I made sure to give him a character on the team I was playing with so the in-game voice lines and sfx lined up
Revised - In games like Apex Legends, there isn't really a time to stay silent, and team communication is vital, so I added some little things to fill the space, like the vendetta with Pathfinder.
The gameplay timeline is comprised of a lot of singular lines (especially with Apex Legends) to fit the flow of how they banter.
For the Minecraft portion, it was much easier.
