look, i finally got my ass into gear. I am positively delighted to announce that I’m ready to publish (one of) my podfic! I had the great honour of reading @birdsaretoddlers’ absolutely beautiful work, Altruism and Accrued Medical Conditions, a haunting character study of Alastor in his post-S1E08 mental and physical struggles.
Original tags: G, Gen, Alastor & Charlie; Hurt/Comfort, Medical Conditions, Healing, Alastor Has a Fucking Breakdown
You can listen to and download my reading of it through this Dropbox file:
Duration: 40:00 File type: mp3 File size: 73.25 MB
Music used: “Leaving Earth” from the Mass Effect 3 Soundtrack “Wiosna” from Katawa Shojou (an excellent visual novel about disability — I thought it fitting, no?) composed by Nicol Amarfi
Outtakes (of a slightly NSFW nature) and my warm-ups at the end!
Follow along with (and make sure to leave a comment on) birdsaretoddlers’ original fic:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
I’m publishing my recording with her explicit (and enthusiastic!) permission.
I have an amateur recording studio... would love to make a podfic of The Raven's Hymn when it's finished.
So, I had a thought today and wanted to see how many people shared my brainwave.
Does anyone else want audio recordings of WLW fanfiction?? Like give me some SuperCorp fluff while I’m hiking up a mountain and a little Clexa angst while I do my squats. Is that too much to ask?
Anyway, now I’m thinking about starting a podcast to read them to my fellow WLW! Thoughts? Feelings?
We’ve made it folks!
Announcement!
I'm planning on making audiodics for my oneshots (eventually my multichaptered fics too). Choose your favorite stories of mine, you can choose more than one but please don't choose all of them.
What's your opinion? Vote now: Inspiration by Swordplay, Flowers, Comfort of One's Lover's Sweater, A Chill in the Wind, Legends in the book
Believe it or not I started making audiofics to practice my confidence. It would mean so much to me if you help by voting. Thank you!
I'm deleting this in a month max, btw.
So I'm a big big big proponent of accessibility, both on the internet and off it, and I'm also a writer (psst: feel free to check out my fics on AO3). It's been a concern for me that not everyone can enjoy fics, whether that's because of dyslexia or related things, eyes that are sensitive to screens/vision issues, a shorter attention span, a dislike for reading, or anything else. And this makes me unhappy! Fandom has had such a transformative influence on my life, and I want everyone who's interested to be able to enjoy all sorts of fanworks. So I did some research, and I found out about podfics--essentially audiobook versions of fanfiction.
And then, my friends, I got *sparkles* inspired. I've got a versatile voice. I've got acting training. I love to read out loud and make up voices. Why shouldn't I extend myself to another area and not just write fics, not just enjoy them, but read them for others? It would be helpful. It would be fun. And I could help make fandom a more accessible place.
No! No, no, no! my severe anxiety screams. You aren't good enough! You'll sound weird! No one will want to listen to you! It might be dangerous! Don't do that! It'll end badly! No no no no no no!
You get the picture. :\
So, in light of this, would anybody potentially have interest in listening to me read? Does anyone who's done podfics before have tips or advice? Anybody just wanna say something to me about this? I just don't want to be alone with my creeping anxiety anymore.
Hello! I'm looking to start recording pod fics, and I was wondering if anyone wanted theirs recorded? (Completely free, I'm just doing this for my own entertainment as I've found myself with WAY too much free time these days)
If you do send me a DM and I'd be more then happy to record it!
