But Franny and Zooey was the West side
So far I have never met anyone who truly understands the allegory of the painting in The Goldfinch. The intrinsic loneliness of the painting is inherent, no other objects exist aside from the pole the bird is chained to and the chain itself and the bird stares into the viewer. Theo feels this loneliness with every step he takes from his mother’s death, the chain is his inability to grow past this, to ever truly admit that his mother is gone and that he could not have done anything to save her.
His life revolves around her, even decades after her death. He is stuck in that moment, he is stuck in that painting, forever trying to flap away but being entirely unable to because of very cabinet he rests his head upon, the very woman whom he adores. Theo is chained to his mother, forever doomed to repeat the cycle of breaking down in hopelessness and trying once more to emulate what he lost when he lost her. As he tries to flap away, all he will do is fall to the second pole. That is all he ever does.
Anyway bye forever
Currently listening to the new gorillaz podcast, damon albarn said he likes thelonious monk, and all i could think about was that donna tartt also likes thelonious monk and audrey decker from the goldfinch also likes him and theo listened to his music on his ipod because of audrey
(and in 2025 I spent a few nice summer train rides listening to thelonious monk because i love the goldfinch wholeheartedly)
I love you so much Audrey Decker.
