It is so hard to put into words how absolutely amazing this Turandot is and how much I love it. But I will try.
To describe watching it I would say it felt like reading a really good and enjoyable book. When the authors words start flowing, and you get immersed in the narrative, the characters speak to you and there aren’t any other thoughts apart from the fact that you’re enjoying what you are reading.
In the same way, that’s how I feel when watching this. The choreography, the music, the composition, the jumps when the music gets high up and of course Yuma, with his beautiful, beautiful skating, gliding so effortlessly, so fast, so full of life and expression. It just all comes together into these four minutes that feel endless, timeless and a little unreal; all these hard-working and amazingly talented people coming together to show us a truly magnificent piece.
This is different, so different compared to every other program he has done, so different compared to any other Turandot that has ever been done. It expresses a bigger part of him and who he is. Nowadays, the world views sadness or quieter moments as more thoughtful and intellectual so much so that other emotions are disregarded and seen as lesser. But I feel like Turandot speaks to us bigger emotions that are just as important as when we’re feeling the most down. To feel triumph without anyone needing to be defeated and to have such joy in the way that it’s not just a trivial passing emotion but something that brings hope and makes you so fortunate to be here in the moment and wants to make you go forward.
It’s beauty in the way that’s not just a trend, hope that doesn’t feel fake, and love that’s not fleeting.
Gaaaah. I really have no words anymore. Right now there’s just this feeling in my chest that makes me feel so happy and elated and I think that that just sums up what this program is to me.
At the last possible competition, he showed us a truly spectacular program that we had been waiting forever for. It makes it just so poetic and memorable because we have seen him struggle with his fs for the past two seasons so the narrative of the music even fits in to these four years.
