If you say Aurangabad and some sanghi obnoxiously tells you it’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, you can tell them it’s actually Khadki (the original name of Aurangabad)

KAILASA TEMPLE - The largest rock-cut Hindu temples at the Ellora Caves, Aurangabad District, Maharashtra, INDIA
औरंगाबादमधील बीबी का मकबरा : भारताचे एक आश्चर्य
If you haven’t been to Ellora Caves, go now! Over tourism is killing the place. Both Ajanta and Ellora have captivated me since childhood. The mysteriously cut Kailasa temple and the Buddhist caves that follow are both architecturally and aesthetically superior to most cave temples in India. I had a wonderful time hiking up there a few years back. My guide sang out an ancient tune when we were in this cave to demonstrate the sharp acoustics that deck this hall. It gave me goosebumps! Imagine what it would sound like to have about a hundred monks chanting in here! . . . @ajanta_elloracaves @maharashtratourismofficial #indiapictures #indiantourism #maharastratourism #aurangabad #ajantacaves #elloracaves #ancientarchitecture #archilovers #indianhistory #sacredsites #historictemples #secrettemples #indiantemples #sanatanadharma #buddhisttemple #travelgram #traveller #travelling #instatravel #igtraveler #igtravelworld #besttravelpics #aroundtheworld #preanka #globetrotter (at Ellora Caves - Unesco World Heritage Site) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl_hcfJNPuC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Shivlingam in Rameshwar Temple, Old Kayagaon, Dist. Aurangabad, Maharashtra
Rohan Gadekar wrote :
There is an ancient Rameshwar temple on the Godavari-Pravara confluence on the border of both the districts on the Nagar-Aurangabad highway. The story of this temple is as follows: While chasing the Kanchan Mriga, Lord Ramchandra comes to the confluence of Godavari and Pravara near the present gate of Ahmednagar-Aurangabad district.
Here Lord Ramachandra separates the head of the Kanchan Mriga. The place where the head of the deer fell is now called Toka, while the place where the trunk fell is considered to be Kayagaon. Both these villages have many beautiful temples of Lord Shiva. This is one of them.
Lord Ramachandra is believed to have manually installed the Shivlinga in this temple. Although the structure of the temple is simple like half mandap, sabhamandap and sanctum sanctorum, it is eye-catching. Although the temple is small, its sculpture definitely attracts the viewer.
This place is considered very sacred for Dashakriya rituals. People from Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Pune and other districts come here for Dashakriya rituals.
