Auri doesn’t actually like open bodies of water, so this is quite ironic.

Aurian : he/him

Aurian’s symbols have always been about gold and fire. He is a celestial being, although he doesn’t know it; and without any practise, he’s quite weak in any supernatural power. But one thing he does have is an aversion to water, or bodies of water. Perhaps he knows it’s an opposite to his natural state! Saying that, he can swim, and he will still take boat rides; he just isn’t fond of seeing the waves and the depths of the ocean.

Tristen, who I write as his (platonic) soulmate in many ways, has a palette based on the ocean. Together they oppose and complement each other. I actually designed a lot of him while listening to Billie Eilish’s Ocean Eyes; in the beginning he actually had blue eyes, but over time I realised how much I disliked the ‘non-white skin with blue eyes’ choice we see in so much media, and decided to go with my favourite (and commonly SEA/EA) eye colour: brown. Occasionally when he has a formal/event blue or teal outfit on, he has coloured contacts in, but that’s as far as I’ll take it.

I was reading the parts of the first Mistborn book that hurt me the most and then out of the blue I remembered that this series exists. It hit that awkward point of being vaguely interesting enough for me to keep reading for a while and being bad enough that I put it down and never looked back about halfway through the third book. I am still stunned that this series was written by a woman considering how *badly* this drips with “men writing women” tropes. The only female character that matters is the protagonist, and she’s being lusted after by ALL of her mentor figures, one of which fucking RAISED HER FROM CHILDHOOD, and she sleeps with him and gets pregnant by him anyways... it’s really fucking gross. (To make things more awkward my DAD was the one who recommended this to me...)

And any other female characters are eeeeeeeeevil and use sex to get what they want but they aren’t karma houdinis, no ma’am, they end up being barren and can’t have kiiiiiiids and did I mention that their whole motivation is being jealous of the main character for all the men falling in love with her? One of them curses her while pregnant so she gives birth to a wolf instead of a baby and I just...

Yeah. Kelsier please let me feel the sweet pain of you dying again so I can be distracted by this hot mess.
