Hi, can I ask for some advice/whatever please? I'm in Queensland, going into year 10 next week and I'm really stressed about it. Is senior school very different from middle school? I'm taking biology, chemistry, french, maths methods and literature. I don't know who to ask, so when I saw an Aussie study blog, I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks mate.
hi! sorry for delayed response. year 10 is not a majorly stressful year, your grades don’t count from year 10 (i don’t even remember my year 10 grades). my advice would be to focus on developing good study habits and routines, such as learning what study methods work well for you, when & where you work best, what tools/resources you need, etc. get in the habit of using a planner/diary. make sure to use your teachers for help, that’s what they’re there for. try and find the enjoyment in studying if you can—ATAR is a long road and it’s good to find some early. main focus is staying on top of homework + assignments, and just remaining familiar with the content. you do not need to be doing 10+ hours on top of school every week. do keep your notes and work though, they may be useful later. take note of what subjects you like and such so you can pick easily for later.
i think QLD schools go back this week, so good luck. definitely look after yourself, don’t stop socialising or extra curriculars (if anything, pick some more up. having hobbies through year 11/12 is so important. you need non-study things to do in breaks and such).
