The other shoppers in my local supermarket have let me down.
I don’t know why Woolworths thought it was appropriate to play The Angels’ Am I Ever gonna See your Face again over the stereo
But considering it’s basically a law in Australia that you MUST do the call and response when you hear it do you know how many people I heard participating?

Christmas in July
Since Aussie Christmas involves BBQs and sunbathing, there’s a nationwide nostalgia for the winter traditions of a northern hemisphere Christmas. Additionally, most Australian holidays are bunched up into the summer, where school vacation, Australia Day and Christmas intersect. So, it’s become increasingly popular to get family together for a gathering in the middle of winter for no reason at all and pretend its Christmas.
Our friends Adam and Beth practice this exact tradition, so on Saturday we went to a lawn bowling club (itself an Aussie holiday practice) and joined their family and friends for a fake holiday get-together. There were Aunties and Grandmas, potluck cookies and cake, and cheesy party games. For the kids, there was a gift exchange and for the adults there was a very cheap bar. Sounds like Christmas to me.
