OBSESSED. WITH. THIS. BOOK 👏 A collection of horror short stories from some of the best horror and thriller YA author's 💪 I was not expecting these stories to be as dark as they were and a few of them are right royally twisted as Fuck 🔥 they were all consistently creepy and captivating and DARRRRK 😅 Each story is inspired by past horror stories that the author has put a twist on and at the end of each story you get to find out which stories are the inspiration (if you can't guess a couple on the way through!🙈) But seriously, for all my dark fiction, horror, thriller, gothic fiction fans READ THIS!! I have no idea how Sylvia Mercedes manages to consistently write such engaging, exciting books and on such a fast timeframe! Tears of dust is book 5 in the venatrix chronicles - one of my favorite series and actually up there with Nevernight in terms of thrilling, badass, dark fiction/gothic fantasy ❤ We're deep in the thick of the overall plot and there's a lot of reveals and action in this book (being careful to avoid spoilers) 🙈 I've been loving that the story has been showing more and more of the Crimson Devils and the "evil" characters because they are so intriguing and exciting to read about 😈 This book has a lot more action than romance compared to other books in the series but it fits perfectly and it takes nothing away from the plot, characters or overall enjoyment of the book 😍 Ayleth and Laranta are very reminiscent of Mia Corvere and her shadows (again being careful to avoid spoilers for that series 😆) relationship wise and while Ayleth is brash and badass like Mia they're on very different levels. Mia is a violent, stabby little bitch (that's why we love her 😂) and Ayleth is a calmer more considered/mellow character. Both women at equally dark and complex and wonderful but if you love Nevernight I have a strong feeling you will adore this series 🔥 Anyway. I'm obsessed. I love this series. I love these characters. I love this world. I love where the story is going. Holy mother of god 🔥 I just finished an excerpt of this beauty courtesy of @bloomsburypublishing and @netgalley and despite being both excited and sceptical IT DELIVERED 💪 I won't lie, I'm a fan of both Throne of Glass and ACOTAR so I know Maas's writing and was definitely intrigued by her foray into adult fiction despite being one of the best known NA author's currently. OK so this review is difficult to rate. On the one hand, I loved the overall storyline and the characters as a whole 👌 on the other hand I found both the action sequences, plot timing and characterisation inconsistent 🤷 I'm giving it three stars because despite all the amazing parts I loved certain areas could've been fleshed out more and certain character pov's could have been worked on to really understand the characters because they have so much potential. There were a couple of twists very near the end that I thoroughly enjoyed but there was also others that fell flat for me because of those timing and pacing inconsistencies I mentioned 💁 If you're a fan of fae books with a healthy dose of romance and some action you will probably enjoy this.
