HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS EXISTED
A quick tip for writing an author bio
If you’re struggling to write an author bio, write a character sheet for yourself. Think of yourself as a character in your book, and not as you, the person.
If you were to tell someone about you, the character, and what makes you interesting, what would you say?
About me:
33 ! She/her. Bi/Queer. English Lit degree in the works. Baking degree mostly acquired.
I’ve been writing since I was 15. Took writing seriously when I started writing fanfic around 2018. I love how fics allow me to explore skills and writing theories that I’m not used to yet.
Now I’m working on a queer enemies to lovers novel that takes place in a world where Heroes and Villains are sponsored by the government and magic shows up rarely enough that it surprises people. The Hero and Villain do not like each other, they try to maim each other, they try to 💀 each other… and by the end they’re gonna be lovers who will do anything to protect each other. It’s going to be a wild ride.
🦋:
"What is a moth, anyways?"
Shit question, innit? Better to ask how to tell if someone is one. That's what matters.
"So...how do you?"
Hm?
"How do you tell who's a moth?"
Oh, that's easy. It's all made up outta hole-cloth; they don't exist.
"But you just said..."
Fine, you know what the Fae are, obviously.
"Uhhh, not really?"
Well, Moths are just the Fae of Flame. See, Moths used to love the moon, until they realized that that Light was too far away for their wings. Now they just love the Flame, since it's within easy reach.
"I don't really...get it?"
A Moth's like a brumeraven, with three more legs and a segmented body.
"A...bird?"
Thing is, no one becomes a Moth without going through a metamorphosis. Problem is they spend all their short lives desperately hoping for a second transformation.
"Well...do any of them?"
Any of them what?
"Get one. A second transformation."
Sure; you ever seen a Mantid? Nah, I suppose not, you've not been with us very long yet.
"I, yeah, no, but you still haven't told me what a moth is..."
Good, you follow. Can't say what a Moth is, only what it's not. Lemme put it like this: You've seen moth-eaten clothes, right? But I bet you've never seen a moth doing the eating, 'ave you? Seems Moths are only recognizable by the empty spaces they leave in their passing.
"I-"
That's the thing, right? The heart of it all. Moths see themselves in everything that they're not. And for some reason they try and consume it Sort of an aren't what you eat situation. Problem is, of course, Moths are a contradiction.
"..."
One moment she's a soft, fuzzy-headed, cute little thing. Next one, it's a helpless victim, fluttering in vain against the pins in its wings, praying for a final transformation. But slip up for one second and they're an eldritch, unknowable prophet of doom and bridge collapses.
"...so..."
Heh, sorry, I've been going on and on, haven't I... Comes with the job and the territory. Anywho, any other questions, rookie?
"Yeah...what the FUCK is a Moth?!"

IMPORTANT: Which picture should go with my bio on the back of my next book?

Did a photo shoot with my mom to get a good picture to go with the About the Author bio on the back of Collision Course, and I've narrowed all the pictures we took down to these two! Which one do you think works better?

About Andi
Hi, I'm Andi Rigby (30s, she/they). I write stories and make art. Some of that can be found here, and some can be found in other places. I'm a firm believer in "make good art," "all art is good art," and "delete your art" (more on those in another post soon).
I can be found on AO3 at theinvisiblequestion. I also post most of my sketches and doodles, as well as finished art, on my sketch blog: @andi-sketchbook. Sometimes you'll find me going by "Dandy Andi" or "Madame Dapper."
My work includes both fanfiction and original fiction, but if you're an avid fanfic reader or in fandom circles, you'll enjoy my original work, too. Some of my favorite tropes include "only one bed" and "grumpy x sunshine" as well as "best friends to lovers" and "idiots in love." I love writing experimental stories and breaking away from the cookie cutter... but I also love cozy fluff, and am a firm believer that one can never have too many cakes.
A few fanworks I'm particularly proud of (all link to AO3):
A Hundred Obols for Charon - A series of 100-word drabbles based on the video game Hades. Most are loosely inspired by other interpretations of Greek mythology as well. Quick snapshots into Patroclus & Achilles, Charon & Hermes, Asterius & Theseus, and more.
Another Brick in the Wall - A lore expansion for Luck be a Landlord, everyone's favorite slot-spinning deckbuilder, featuring Commie McComrade and their rivalry with the landlord.
Oz - (explicit) M*A*S*H and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine crossover (yes, you read that right) wherein a holodeck malfunction mysteriously teleports Dr. Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce onto the space station and directly into the care of Dr. Julian Bashir. Shenanigans ensue, both in the surgical bay and in the bedroom.
