my dad: totally miserable in loud social environments like rock concerts

my dad: will literally stomp his foot when he gets overwhelmed

my dad: pursues hyperfixations to the point where it impacts his personal life and relationships

my dad: makes only furtive eye contact when you talk to him

my dad: only makes friends based on shared special interests, anyone else he met through his wife

my dad: even if he doesn’t have much interest in common with “wife friends”, he notices things about them or that they say that he saves to use for conversation with them later

my dad: gets mortally offended when he perceives someone as violating his moral code, to the point that he will write off whole relationships without checking to see if he understood the subtext

my dad: has summarized his interests as “not interested in sports or cars”

my dad: frequently doesn’t understand why someone is upset (like my mom, when I was 11, when he let me watch A Clockwork Orange)

my dad: calls and tells me what he’s been up to without asking anything about me

my dad: “oh I just figure if you have anything you wanted to talk about you’d bring it up, why would you want to be asked to rehash something you already did?”

also my dad: “am I on the spectrum? only in the sense that EVERYONE is a little on the spectrum, obviously”
